A Fabulously Scenic Day At Tremblant.

There were adequate soft top layers, however compared to
yesterday, they were shallow and over a very solid base.
So, we were wrong about the degree of softness in the substrates
meaning there was less overall softness that we though there would be,
so obviously then by deduction, a more solid base underneath.
It just did not get warm enough.
In that sense, it was a very technical ski day because if you
wanted to maintain edge control through sequential turns,
great sensitivity had to be applied in order to prevent loss
of lateral traction into “Skidding” or Side-slipping modes.
Due to the inherently lower speeds of Beginners and
Intermediates, conditions favoured those skill sets
and most of the Green and a lot of the Blue were
some of the most consistent quality surfaces, all of
which had great durability throughout the day, right
up to Last Run.

It did soften ever-so-slightly as the day warmed up, but it
just never got that deeper hook-up-and-go, extreme edging
capability, again, because it didn’t get warm enough.
Still loads of fun and very, very fast, but somewhat icy.
What we were right about, was “Smooth”. The groomed array
is in superb foundational condition to receive the forecast
snow storm currently approaching from the west. If we were
to receive the upper forecast range at anywhere close to 35cm’s,
having that laid over the smooth base here now would yield
extraordinary ski conditions. Even a fraction of that would still
be a game changer.
That’s what you get with a cooler than forecast day, after a really warm one.
When Mother Nature exerts forces way beyond Human control
we’re so very thankful Tremblant Mountain Crews default is to
make everything smooth.

After the initial warmup(#)...
Today... Copy Of Yesterday...
There should be enough “Warm” to soften the very top layers, however,
there should hopefully not be enough “Warm” to get into the Base.
As a result, what we think has the highest probability is that
we get mega-traction, without severe or pervasive mogul formations.
Everything should be easy, within respective Skill Level ratings.

The lead action shot is from about the mid-pitch in this shot below,
and amazingly, it still looked very much like this(from just after lunch),
still, at last run.
This was absolutely typical of all groomed terrain
and we think there’s enough frost in the top substrates
to support this durability again today.

depending on elevation yesterday. Last night down to around -9C
variable also with elevation.
The Laws Of Physics Apply.
Initially there may be icy.
The biggest asset in that regard, at least as far as the groomed
inventory is concerned, is smooth. Almost anything and everything
are easier on the re-freeze, when smooth, so look to the Official
Trail Status to see where that’s going to be.
Once the initial warmup occurs, generally, what we’re expecting...
Another near ideal, top of seasonal conditions day.
Everything was super-fun, and super-forgiving easy yesterday
and we think that’s got a really good chance of being close
to identical today.
If anything, we may see some more pronounced moguls
by late afternoon as the softness works in, but generally
we’ve been surprised to see how resilient and mogul free
things held all day yesterday.
Evidently the -30’s C recent overnights are still benefiting
the integrity of the top layers right up to this point.

Watch out for more pronounced icy sections on South Side. Improving
as heat builds, but more consistent conditions on North. Some trails
in progressive opening are not yet available.

Once the basic thermal influence of air and solar forces
exert the change in the balance of power, it should be...
Basically, Firm Morning, turning to soft afternoon.
If we’re lucky, again, we’ll get to keep the speed
when the soft, very spring-like, afternoon arrives.
There were a couple of sticky zones like Mi Chemin
plateau, and the Soleil Algonquin run-out for examples,
but they were really small and with a few skates, traversed
quickly.
Correct temperature ski/board base waxing will be a big asset
as warm sets in.
We run the risk of being too optimistic if the warming is not quick enough,
so what we would also have to say is that the best, or maybe the most
versatile conditions are going to favour the afternoon.
In a worse case scenario, i.e., icier than expected, or icier for
longer than expected, the whole picture has every good possibility
of being temporary when considered with the arrival of the Snow
Storm Weather Warnings for tomorrow.
