1/19/21 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

64(*) Open Trails on all 4 Sectors at #Tremblant .

Compared to average for this season so far...

It Gunna Be KKKkkkool...

At least to start with, as the old analogue thermometer
tips over -20C just before sunrise.

Otherwise, it’s still "Active Strategic Asset Management Day”, except it
may be conceptually modified to be “Days” if the reduction in Open Trails
continues. The main reason for that of course, is primarily safety. Safety is
certified by the Ski Patrol and when there’s been a big dump of warm/wet
snow followed by a rapid drop in temps, the Ski Patrol closes trails where
they determine safety is not up to acceptable standards. The other reason
for that is trail maintenance in various ways including snowmaking and/or
trail finish grooming.

The net result is that there is a temporarily smaller number of open
trails until such time as the Ski Patrol certifies the safe access to any
and all terrain that may have been previously opened.

All Tremblant Guests need to be patient while this process is
actively underway.

Weather Notes:

While it certainly is going to seem chilly compared to what we’ve
been used to, an extended period of cool is exactly what the
Mountain needs in order to make up for what we would consider
to be a lack of seasonal frost depth. This is due to the unusual
warmth of recent weather patterns that have deflected polar air
masses away from this part of the planet up until now. Its a perfect
time to catch up because we think the transfer of cool into the mass
of the Mountain may be more effective with the still early, and so-far
slightly less than average, thinness of the ambient snowpack.

Basically, we need this now because when there's more chill in the hill,
the stored refrigerant effect stabilizes the base from below when those
longer days of spring inevitably come around.

Thankfully, the main benefit of KKkkool comes with the several sequential
overnight lows of forecasted -20C’s, WHEN WE ARE NOT SKIING... so
within normal daytime ranges of “Winter” it’s not really too bad at all.

Conditions Notes:

For Beginners:

It is essential to seek guidance from the Tremblant Info.Ski Crews
for best results. There are reductions in Open Beginner terrain that
are extraordinary, for example the restoration/development of Nansen
Bas/Lower, but they are there for legitimate reason. If you are a friend
or relative bringing a Beginner to the Mountain, you need to take extra
precaution and patience while guiding Beginners to safe open terrain.

For Intermediates:

This is a time for conservative explorations that start with a
lower challenge default until you can confirm safe descents.
Absolute speed, directional and braking control is mandatory
and you may not assume any conditions beyond line-of-sight
navigation on those initial runs. This is probably not a good time
to be pushing the limits into Black/Expert terrain unless you
are extremely confident and can start and maintain complete
control at all times.

For Experts:

The reduction in Open Black terrain is for legitimate reasons
and closed access should be strictly observed until the Ski
Patrol allows. High levels of technical skill may be instantly
necessary for safe navigation in all open Black rated terrain.

The Positive Outlook(s):

A) A review of the next few days in the 14 day weather data posted
above shows a very high probability of new natural snowfall that
should positively mitigate any current conditions limitations.
This is especially significant in our opinion because of the inherent
dryness that is typical of snowfall occurring at these relatively cold
temperatures.

B) The likelihood is that if there are changes to the Open Trail
list during Open Hours, those changes may now be to the up-side.
This continues to be what we call a very dynamic situation and
typically Mountain Crews work very hard at “A.S.A.P.” re-opens
that frequently result in more trails opening.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
