What We Say...

“Like Champagne, The Very Best Snow Is Served Well Chilled."

and early morning sunrise Summit temps at -20 C certainly rate “Well Chilled” references...

Cryogenics is the study of the effects of cold on materials and
while it has its most common current context within industrial
applications, there is no rule that limits the use of the term. On
that basis we feel it is totally appropriate to use it to reference
the characteristics of snow because of the distinct performance
properties it has for Skiing/Boarding when snow is very cold.

Most people who have a non-sporting experience with dry,
cold snow will recognize a basic quality of very low/no internal
humidity as a sonic byproduct when walking on compressed
layers of it because it emits a very distinct “Squeaky” sound
as footsteps progress. The sound is a unique “Reeek, Reeek
Reeek, Reeek...” alternating noise emission from under the
ball of each foot as the walker exerts forward movement
pressure from step to step. This distinct “Squeaking” sound
is the mechanical consequence of many dry snow crystals
being forced to move against one another without any of
the lubrication that is there from internal humidity in the
warmer ranges of temps closer to the freezing mark.

It is this cold dryness that makes its performance so special
when groomed to high levels of compression on an Alpine Ski
Trail. When there is no internal humidity, there is no adhesive
bonding, only mechanical pressure, and this lack of adhesiveness
without any minute degree of wetness tends to make it very
fast because of extremely low friction, but simultaneously
generates very high lateral grip capability due to its ability
to hold applied turning force when an inclined ski edge is
making a banked arch across its surface.

The net effect is a unique combination of not only natural
speed, but super easy and super effective control inputs
with very forgiving qualities that allow you to make corrections
and/or adjustments on the move without resistance.

Our forecast for today is for this type of easy, fun cold formed
snow and within the relatively tolerable range of genuine “Winter”
temp ranges.

Conditions Notes:

Clinically speaking, we expect the Ski/Board experience to be excellent
today, however, it is the Weekend, so attendance, especially with
Covid-19 Pandemic Health/Social Distancing regulations applied to
Lift Lines, may cause upload wait times... maybe. Be ready, and
be patient when necessary.

-------- Conditions Caveat: -------------

The combination of low temp’s and blustery high winds
will generate severe windchill values where facing exposures
occur. Use caution with garment systems for all, but especially
with small children.

We would estimate this line pictured below at approx. 7 Min +/-, as the
social distancing makes it look longer than it is in terms of upload capacity.
The Versant Nord/North Side lines shown for this date are a more accurate
indication of relative traffic load.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
