2/1/21 #Tremblant Conditions

Post by T360 »

.

98(*) Open Trails on all 4 Sectors at #Tremblant .

It’s very close to -30 C, again, but probably for the last time.

Hit the “Snooze” button, and go back to sleep for a couple hours...

This afternoon will be way more user friendly.

Weather Notes:

Definitely a “Wintery” way to start February...

However... it only lasts for about the next 4 hours as
warmer temps move into the region and appear as
though they will not only be here for a while, but they’re
going to be bringing some snowfall along as well.

Conditions Notes:

Up until noon hour, a repeat of yesterday:

The Groomed trail surfaces should be immaculately smooth
across the entire range of skill levels, however for first tracks
and maybe even a bit beyond, there could be elevated rates
of friction as super-cool cryogenic snow can also be so dry
that it does not have the same easy glide it does at temps
in mid-minus twenties or warmer.

That possibility may make it easier to try steeper pitches
however it may also make it necessary to build a little speed
to traverse plateaus, especially for our friends on Snowboards.

In the Sous Bois, Glades, Hors Piste, and Un-Groomed categories,
super-cool is typically a big asset in generating lightness within
the snowpack, so we would expect a generalized benefit right
across the board if you like to explore the bush.

Beyond Noon Hour:

Depending on the fine points of Solar radiation in relation
to breezes or any cloud cover, things should simply morph
towards warmer snow surfaces where natural speed, which
functionally may seem like more “Glide” or less friction, may
increase proportionally to rising temps.

The Sous Bois may loose a bit of the feathery lightness, but
generally should remain at about 99% of yesterday because
the temps will not get more than a couple of millimetres into
the very top layers and the overnight chill should be well
preserved within the snowpack for at least all day today.

---------------- 12:21 P.M. Insert Update: ----------------------

The temps have risen 22C in less than 6 hours, from -28C to -6C.

Ya gotta call that a way-big upgrade in user-friendly!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
