An important observation here is that when the Official
snowfall for last night was recorded at 1cm, it is
obvious to see closer to 5cm’s and more, drifted in
over the left descending side. Big, big bonus that
may show similar effects across the whole Mountain
and also, very typical when snow delivery occurs with
wind.

Give Or Take A Degree Or Two...

It’s 20C WARMER than 24 hours ago.

However... The cold snow performance has
not gone anywhere.

Todays surfaces should all have what we call
“Thermal Momentum” in the sense that the
recent very cold overnight -30’s C temps
penetrate solidly into the base and even when
the air temps go up, the residual cool that’s below
a handful of cm's in the surfaces takes a long time
to be effected. Basically, you end up with just about
all the shred qualities that have been as pictured
above on the weekend, remaining totally intact.

We think the difference today will lie in that handful
of surface cm’s that with just a touch of upward
warmth may have a noticeably higher degree of
softness and low resistance speed.

Generally then, this certainly is one winter where
any form of typical “January Thaw” is just a concept
that's not going to happen. Welcome to the range
of weather possibilities that in the long run over
years, generate “Averages” that inherently include
both high and low temp ranges.

Not a single thing we can do about experiencing
a season that is decidedly on the low end of the
scale. Ultimately, the benefit will be long term
base stability well into the spring because the
frost injection into the mass of the Mountains
core now, is effectively a future source of stored
and time released refrigerant.

Conditions Notes:

In the the respective skill level rated groomed terrain,
fantastic smoothness and all-day mogul resistant durability.
As the temps rise through the day, sensations of easy glide
and fast natural speed may increase due to the typically and
favourably changing characteristics of warming snow that is
still completely within sub-zero C ranges.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste there are well established
traffic patterns over a good base. In the Un-Groomed,
there are also generally good conditions, however, there
can be natural hazards in the most highly traversed
portions where traffic has been concentrated, so care
with reduced speed is appropriate on all initial explorations.

In these cases, snow tends to get pushed out towards
trail edges, so if you have legitimate Expert skills, short
radius, parallel style turning skills that can be executed
rapidly, and within a narrow descent line may be a big
asset for navigating soft snow lines that typically exist
tight to outboard sides due to the heavier traffic over
trail centres.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
