102/102(*) Open Trails On All 4 Open Sectors At #Tremblant .
"Dear Mother Nature,
Please send your Polar Vortex
back to Siberia.
Thanks in advance for your
kind attention to this matter,
Sincerely, Tremblant360."
Wow, we think this extended period of extremely cold days
is going to be enough to skew the 30 year averages. It may
not be by much, but it certainly is on the very low end of the
scale we can either recall statistically, or remember from
experience. It’s just not normal to have such a long and
steady time span of cold like this and frankly, we wish it
would retreat back to somewhere else over the North Pole.
On the flip-side, the depth of frost injection into the
core of the Mountains mass is maybe going to be deep
enough to maintain a radiating refrigerant effect of trail
base support until May. So, if conditions did nothing other
than trend to averages at any point in the remaining winter,
we are predicting the potential for one of the most durable,
high quality Spring Skiing seasonal periods in history. It will
be interesting to see, but that could possibly be a key link
indicator for readers/researchers confidence in booking a
late Spring Ski Holiday now. Basically, foundational January
and February weather patterns are some of the biggest
predictive influences for late season quality.

Supplementary Weather Data:
So, if you’ve been following the cold chronology of
the past few weeks, the top right-hand graphic in the
supplementary data below pretty much sums up what
we’ve had to endure. As usual though, we’ll point out
that we are not alone, the “Cold Zone” has encompassed
virtually the entire eastern coast of North America.

Conditions Notes:
In the groomed trail inventory, there may be some elevated
friction levels until temps rise into the minus mid-twenties
and above. That’s the Laws of Physics as applied to cryogenic
snow, where glide can be inhibited by temps so low that
snow takes on the physical properties of dry sand underfoot.
----------- Conditions Caveat: ---------------
These early temp’s are not a kid-friendly zone.
Keep ‘em indoors until you are absolutely sure
of their safe passage.
These early temp’s are a Zero exposed skin zone.
Frostbite damage can occur in seconds and nerve
or tissue damage can occur in minutes. Err on the
side of caution.
Remember, descent speed equals air speed, and
air speed equals wind chill values down to high -40’sC
at initial open hours.
-----------------------------------------------
Once the temp’s increase the warmer forecast hours of
late morning to afternoon, clinically speaking, the skiing
should be excellent. Many night-shift cycles of grooming
compaction over a very high quality smooth base, with
added recent snowfall of light, fluffy powder snow should
all meld into a wonderful blend of ease and durability across
all rated skill levels.
There can be typical minor slick or exposed bare base areas
at, or just below some topographical crests, on the traversed
centres of some steeper pitches, or where traffic converges
around trail intersections, however, related to the overall
square area of the groomed trail network, they are very
small and if you have properly tuned edges, you may never
feel them at all.
Conditions in the Sous Bois/Hors Piste and Un-Groomed
are quite good, however caution within the patterns
generated by traffic especially in the Un-groomed group
is still warranted due to potential low-spot hazard that
can be difficult to see ahead because of the deep trough’s
in well worn mogul zones.
It is somewhat likely that the cool weather may keep
the weekend traffic on the light side.

Please Note: The Versant Sud/South Side Gondola is
likely seeing some proportionally larger use due to
very cold temps that cause guests to seek the warmth
of the Gondola cabins that build internal solar energy
as they rise. The rest of the visible lifts are not busy.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.
(

First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
