There is one aspect of the weather notes that is
absolutely incorrect, which is the indicated wind
speed. It is almost a “Howler”, and certainly very
gusty within a strong wind, at least at the Summit.

Meticulous detail in garment closures and overlaps
will be necessary to retain inner warmth for first tracks.

What you see below is the dusty appearance of high
velocity wind-streaming from left to right that is
propelling large volumes of loose snow across the
surface. If it stays this breezy, it could affect the
outcomes we anticipated in our initial forecast,
however the rise in the temps will retain all the
basic advantage of feeling warmer, especially if you
can find a calmer wind-sheltered sunny spot for a
safe trail-side break.

More Cool, More Cool Skiing!

Another very chilly morning starting at -30C, but...
a dramatic rise by almost +20C, to end up at -12C
forecast. With this hourly profile, in our opinion there
is some possibility that once the temp’s really begin
to climb around the noon hour, that we could see a
higher than forecast warm peak by a couple of degrees.

Weather Notes:

First Day Of Season With Sunset At 5:00 P.M.

This is an important utility factor, particularly applicable
to Versant Nord/North Side trails that are shaded in
afternoon. The longer days with the sun rising in the
sky are improving the late afternoon visibility for
noticeably better contrast and definition.

On cloudless sunny days there may also be an
additional measure of solar energy transmitted
into the top surface layers of Versant Sud/South
Side and Soleil Sectors which can give trails in
these zones a softer, more forgiving feel underfoot.

Supplementary Weather Factors
(Repeat From Yesterday As Applicable)

The top right-hand graphic in the supplementary data
below pretty much sums up what we’ve had to endure
over recent weeks. As usual though, we’ll point out that
we are not alone, the “Cold Zone” has encompassed
virtually the entire eastern coast of North America.

Please Note: This first below is a graphic
representation of indicated deviation either
up/down from annotated date averages.

(1.30.22 - Apres Ski Insert Edit Re Above Graphic.
Regional East Coast Historic Weather Perspective:
It should be noted the storm system over
the East Coast has produced a “Weather
Bomb” generating 80 cm’s of snow in
the Boston Ma. U.S.A. in a single day.
Travel chaos has been widespread and
over 1,400 commercial airline flights
have had to be cancelled within the
East Coast/New England regions.)

Conditions Notes:

It will be a cool, but very fine start for today, but the
sweet-spot for excellence in the potential across the
entire groomed inventory develops when the combination
of sun and air temps really begin to work favourably
around mid-morning.

We have seen other similar numeric rises in degrees
recently, but todays benefits may be more noticeable
because of the warmer range achieved. Inherent levels
of glide and speed over groomed trails always seem
to rise within Sub-zero C ranges, but there is an optimal
point somewhere around the rise across -10C into single
digit -C values where not too cool and not too warm
meet, and we think that very near ideal mix may be a
possibility for early afternoon on Sud/South and Soleil
sectors.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste group, there are still very fine
conditions, however traffic patterns are well established
so there can be natural hazards where concentrations
of user flow occur so caution is warranted on all initial
explorations.

Similarly in the Un-Groomed group, there are very
definite traffic patterns that are showing deep
trough’s between moguls and the consequent
occasional exposures of natural hazards in some
of the deepest cuts. Caution with speed is therefore
warranted in exploring these zones and it is important
to understand that the Black Diamond Expert ratings
and Ski Patrol warnings posted in some of these trails
are legitimate reasons to not drag your Intermediate
skill level friends into these areas.

Overall, the most versatility in shared skill level use
will be in the groomed trail list where we think it’s
going to be a great day for confident learners to be
stepping up to increased challenge in steepness
and refining control with more speed. In our opinion
there is significant potential to be another of the
seasons top high performance Front-Side Carving
technique days.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
