T360 Almost Midnight Apres Ski Edit At 11:43 P.M.

How Could You Not Take This Picture?

During the course of the day we saw
dozens and dozens of photos being
taken and when conditions are this
beautiful, it’s no wonder.

Up every lift, over every crest....

The scenery and the skiing are spectacular.

This one below was on the photo-discard list because
it’s a very long telephoto off the TGV Quad that is soft
on the focus, but we ultimately decided that it’s such
a great insight in to some of the performance down the
steeper pitches that it’s worth including anyway. Basically,
for Expert skills and Expert slopes, this is generally what
Tremblant looked like today...

There was less in the way of retained groomed effect than we
thought there might be, probably just the outright softness of
so much snow at once, and conditions generally favoured Expert
level skills, however we did correctly call Nansen as the star of
the Green, Beginner terrain, it was excellent from top-to-bottom,
wall-to-wall. We stand by the essential forecast we made this morning
with "smooth, but with a lingering degree of softness and the potential
for some zones of traffic generated mogul formations.”, that’s just
about exactly what happened.

More on all that in the morning.

102/102(*) Open Trails.

15 cm’s Of Official New Snow!

And Most Of It Came During Open Hours Yesterday.

In many cases, due to the thickness, it actually
made steep pitches like this Taschereau sample
below, a lot easier, as for genuine Experts, there
was a very beneficial gravitational offset.

Depending on how Mother Nature cooked things up
with a drop in the temps overnight, there are a number
of scenarios that could prevail today, but the one we
think is most likely is smooth, but with a lingering
degree of softness and the potential for some zones
of traffic generated mogul formations. This all due to
the Official 15cm’s of total snowfall which is just a wee
bit over our common reference of 10cm’s as a mark
for complete grooming assimilation in one overnight
event. It follows then, that the ideal level of compaction
may need one more night shift to optimize surface density. However...

Due to the fact that there were wind-shaped differences
in the rates of accumulation between sheltered lee-side
slopes and direct wind-facing slopes, there will likely
be closer to ideal compaction in areas that were on the
lower end of the buildup. One of the best examples may
be our top pic. reference, Versant Sud/South Side Summit
level trail # 23, Taschereau, as well as all the adjacent
upper levels that were primarily wind-facing and consequently
had less retained accumulations.

If that were the case, it would mean that there are full and
complete Skill Level ranges of near-ideal compaction and
density because this sector includes Green rated Nansen,
Blue rated Beauvallon and Alpine, as well as all the Black
rated trails such as Taschereau, Kandahar, McCulloch, et al,
with particularly favourable potential for the double-Black’s,
Zig-Zag and Vertige that were both winch-groomed at their
recent openings.

Weather Notes:

For today there is a very big difference between
the wind-speed of sunrise and First Tracks. This
wind component could have effect on both the
surface characteristics, as well as the level of
attention necessary for outer shell garment closures
overlaps and seals, as any facing driven wind force
will find the smallest of gaps which will push in cool, quickly.

The wind will be rising up over the Mountain from
between Nansen and P’tit Bonheur, so with the swirling
effect around the Summit contours you can expect
some gusty moments anywhere either side of Trail # 2,
La Crete.

Conditions Notes:

What we are hoping for, and confident it should actually occur,
is good natural speed in all the groomed inventory with the return
of some “cool” in the air. We think chances are very great for Nansen
to be the star of the Green terrain as it was a wind facing zone yesterday
so there may not have been the deepest accumulations which would
mean it could have the highest level of ideal compaction with a single
grooming night-shift.

If there is retained friction it will simply make all steeper challenges
easier, so for confident Intermediates it could be a great day for
exploring some of the groomed Black’s that may offer superb degrees
of natural control with a little bit of gravitational offset.

There is potential for fun and easy control for all skill levels and
because it’s still mid-work-week, the traffic will probably be
light all day, so there’s also great potential for the durability of
consistent performance quality from First Tracks to Last Run.

We think this will be very good for the Sous Bois/Hors Piste
and Un-Groomed as many of the most popular Nord/North
and Edge zones were in the lee-side of the wind, so there
could be some fantastic drift-in zones just waiting for you
to discover in the nooks and crannies where the tall trees
also act as a wind buffer facilitating settled deposits.

A Mini Park Review.

Versant Nord/North Side Trail # 79, Sissy Schuss, Bas/Lower.

This park is in great shape. The features on the lower
extent of the run are a sequence of “S” and “M” rated
combined fixed modules(left) and an adjoining ramp(right),
on each step. You can do the module, or jump the ramp,
or as we actually saw happening, jump the ramp in
a left diagonal lift-off, then hit the module half-way
down in a deflected bounce off it’s side or top.

Below you see a an all-air clear ramp jump and
what we think you should note is that this feature
is rated at “S” but we think that is very conservative
and it is a very big “S” where you can definitely get big
air, just as you see.

Kidz of all ages were “Whooping It Up” and loud, very happy
shouts of joy can be heard on a continuous basis, so evidently
the participant approval level is very high.

It should also be noted that for the fans of the traditional
Sissy Schuss, there is still enough space on the descending
right side for full-on carving as the whole trail has been made
wider and it easily accommodates traditional skiing lines, but
with the added bonus of being able to use the sides of the
features as banking for air turns or high speed carving if
you have the muscle and skills.

All-in-all, a really fun use of this trail and we recommend you
give it a try if for no other reason than to see the very talented
kidz performing some great tricks!

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.)
