"On and On they went through the night, their shadows moving
along the soft white snow like ghosts rushing towards the darkness."
It was actually a very beautiful night to be out on the 24 Hours at
Tremblant Children's Charity Fundraiser course.
The Temperature was very pleasant right up to the halfway mark.
Standing in the participants transition area, right beside the countdown
timing clock, it actually felt as though it was warming up a bit, but then
within an hour, you could feel the winter come back into it and it did
not take long to realize that things were getting "Crisp". By 1:30 A.M.
it was cold and on came the parkas and any other warmup gear that
was handy.
It was fortunate that the warmth of the evening lasted as long as it did
though, because the Spectator Crowd had great conditions to not only
watch the the laps being clicked off as participants raced through the
timing Start/Finish zone, but the great entertainment that was up on
stage rockin' the night away.
This morning brings us back to mild winter temp's starting off at
around -8C under overcast skies with the possibility of a dusting
of snow and a rise in the temps to just under the freezing mark
at -2C. The winds will be moderate at 10 Km or so from the South,
so as you are standing at the summit, the breezes will be coming
across the Mountain from the Soleil side. This is good news for
everyone on the Mountain today as most activity should be in the
lee of the Mountain. For those not in the 24 Hour event and using
the North Side, while Skiing/Boarding there should not be any real
wind felt, as it will be more or less at your back on decent. You may
feel it a bit as you approach the summit while coming up the North
Side Lifts, particularly near the peak on the Duncan Chair, but the
temps are not really that cold, so it should be easy to handle.
There are 15 open runs shown on the Official http://www.tremblant.ca
Snow Report, but just like yesterday, the South Side runs included are
for the exclusive use of the 24 Hour participants.
Once the event is completed at noon however, with any luck, the barriers
may come down and these beautifully prepared surfaces may be opened
up to the public.
The skiing is very good, all things considered and the Tremblant Mountain
Crews are doing a great job of maintaining surfaces. In the high traffic
zones there are some slick portions, so use all due care and control in
these areas and keep your eyes tuned for beginners particularly around
trail intersections or steep pitches.
You'll have a great day today, just being outside in the fresh air with the
feel of the snow under your skis or boards!
