.
Yikes !
It's a wee bit Cool outside this morning!
The base temp is showing a rather chilly -19C which is
definitely going to mean bundling up with your good parka,
your best thermal base layer, and keeping your body heat
from escaping around neck and wrists with a good neck
warmer and gloves or mittens with a long cuff. (If need be,
you can find hand warmers at many of the shops around the
Mountain, including the little store at the Summit, right inside
the main entrance of Grand Manitou, so there's no reason to
be uncomfortable.)
No Problem... Skiers and Boarders alike are adaptable people
that know Winter means being prepared with the right layers
for whatever Mother Nature serves up for us.
So then, once you're geared up for it, you'll find 16 runs open
this morning featuring "Top To Bottom" on both the South and
North sides under mostly Sunny Skies.
The wind is forecast to be moderate in speed at around 15 Km,
and from the North-West, or coming across the Mountain from
the Beauvallon/Nansen sectors. Riding up the TGV, it should be
at your back and coming up the Duncan Express, you should be
in the shelter of the Mountain until you are just about at the
summit, but regardless, bundle up for comfort and safety.
With todays temps you could experience frostbite in as little as
4 or 5 minutes on exposed skin such as noses, cheeks and ears
while you're ripping around the Mountain, so please take care
and go safely.
NIGHT SHIFT NEWS:
the Mountain Crews have been up most of the night as usual,
preparing our surfaces for another day.

What is Important about this today...
1) Cold temps like today result in a very dry, "Squeaky" cold snow
surface that is fast and carves like a knife! ... so the Skiing/Boarding
is going to be Exceptional! You only get these grippy squeaky snow
surfaces when its cold out and today is going to be our first day of
the season to enjoy this wonderful combination of grip and control
that is only possible at these temps.
2) Not only will the grooming provide us with the most beautiful
carving surface one could imagine, but as well, compacting the
surface allows the cold to be conducted into the ground below
quicker, improving the rate at which the frost penetrates into the
ground. This is a good thing because we need to catch up a bit
and get the frost well under our surfaces to build durability for
the season.
Bottom Line on all this: Get out there with the
right thermal layers and enjoy what is probably going to be the
best carving we've had so far in our new season!
Today is going to be a "Cool", Rockin' Great Day at Tremblant,
so if you're not here, you're in the wrong place!
