There can be no doubt in anyones mind now that Winter is

"On A Clear Day You Can See Forever" ...No matter what the temp is today, nothing will take away from the magnificent view that todays forecasted brilliantly sunny skies should have for us.

17 open trails this morning, 11 on the South Side and 6 on the
North Side, with 5 lifts to service them. The only thing to note
here early is the "progressive", or delayed opening of the
Duncan Quad Chair at the bottom of the North Side, but
in the mean-time, the ever faithful Lowell Thomas chair
will take you back up from the North Side Mid-Way point.

As we see by the increased Trail count (up one from yesterday),
there is a new North Side Trail open today, Rigodon, which is a
blue square intermediate trail that runs parallel to La Traverse,
closest to the Lowell Thomas Chair Lift.

Rigodon brings you out right at the Lowell Thomas base and we
have always enjoyed its more gradual decent compared to La Traverse,
which is a black diamond, so we're sure there will be a lot of intermediates
that will be happy to have an another option to get to the bottom while
still using Rope Tow to descend from the Summit.

Obviously, this will take the pressure off La Traverse, which has had
some icy bits in the center, so hopefully it will be able to hold up
better with less volume.

The 11 trails open on the South Side continue to be in excellent
shape and with this little cold snap we seem to have going on,
these wonderful conditions will be easy for the Mountain crews
to maintain and build upon.

With these kind of temps, snow making production will be both high volume and high quality.

Speaking of cold snaps, with our base temp this A.M. at just around
the -20C mark, it is indeed cold outside, but that must be put into
the context of the benefits that we get.

1) Because there has been no warm weather since we got all the
powder recently, the snow still has that wonderful dry “squeaky"
quality. This is one of the finest ski/board surfaces that we know
and we would not trade it for anything as the ability of the snow
to generate "Grip" as we carve around the Mountain means we
enjoy a level of feel and control that helps define "The Joy of Skiing".

2) Typically, temps at this level are accompanied by crystal clear
blue sky and today is no exception. It is forecasted to be a Picture
Perfect Post Card Day and you will feel more alive and invigorated
by taking part in it... Don't forget your camera!

3) We need the frost to work into the Mountain in order to protect
and preserve our season and there is only one way to do that.

4) Snow Making is facilitated by these temps and the Quality of
blown snow is very high.

Speaking of Snow Making... Here is a link to a "How To" on navigating
Snow Making Zones on the Mountain. Anyone that has had iced up
goggles or glasses will appreciate this info.

Today is a typical early winter day with beautiful Ski/Board
conditions that you will need to have appropriate layers for... Enjoy!
