Off To A Good Start!

In theory... We are not privy to the exact strategic plan,
i.e., what might be on the planning board for specific
open runs, however... with the clear prospect of sub-zero C’s
at Mountain elevations, from now until “First Tracks”,
what we can tell you is... what is possible. See below...

We would respectfully submit a review of the opening
2 years ago where super-warm fall weather caused
a delay in opening, but... with one week of ideal sub-zero’s,
Mountain Crews delivered Summit-To-Base beautifully
skiable open terrain for both Sud/South and, Nord/North.

In this case we have 10 days of projected sub-zero’s
plus a reasonably optimistic natural snowfall component.
There is natural precipitation forecast for all 10 days and
with the typically cooler by -4C at elevations, there’s a really
solid chance for this to be all snowfall up over the trails.

This is great news with significant potential for opening day
Summit-To-Base availability for both Sud/South and Nord/North.

We need to emphasize that there can be many differences
between potential and actual. We will continue to monitor
and record observations for additional clues. Of course,
snowmaking visible at any Base levels is a major indicator,
however at this stage the Versant Nord/North Side base
web-cam is off-line. The most recent Nord/North POV’s
did have deployed snow guns visible, but until the use
of that snowmaking equipment can be confirmed, we
don’t know for sure.

Visible snowmaking to the Sud/South Resort base will
be easy to spot and we would not be surprised to see
that starting this evening.

More Good News!

The photographic evidence of visible snowmaking down
to the Versant Nord/North Side base is exactly the opening
day news development we regard as a fully optimized day-1.

There is no substitute for base skiing access utility for both
principle public entrances. What we have now is at the least,
a very solid apparent commitment to that most basic function.

The advantages are numerous and genuine. From the sheer
abundance of open terrain, being able to ski out over total
Mountain vertical, to being able to ski to the level/zone your
vehicle is parked at, it all adds up to making opening day
fun and easy.

POSSIBLE OPENING DAY TRAIL INVENTORY:

Versant Sud/South, Summit-To-Base
Via La Crete, and either Beauvallon Haut/Upper
AND/OR Nansen Haut/Upper to Mi Chemin.
Plus, Beauvallon Bas/Lower, to Johannsen.

Possible Lift Openings could include
the Gondola and TGV.

The real bonus for Sud/South would be
the “AND” reference from above.

For Versant Nord/North, Summit-To-Base
Via P’tit Bonheur, to Beauchemin Bas/Lower.

Possible Lift Openings are the Duncan Quad
and the new Lowell Thomas High Speed Quad.

---------------- 11.19.22 Update: --------------------

One major tell-tale in this web cam array below is the
increasing coverage of the Summit trees by natural snowfall.

Genuine, real snowfall support by Mother Nature is just about
the very best synergistic possibility for pre-season initial terrain
development.

This is huge positive news for the blended quality of the opening
day trails where the larger the percentage of natural is, it tends to
yield a smoother, faster, less granular feel under skis/board.

------------------- 11.20.22 Update: --------------------------

The projections for Summit-To-Base opening day terrain on Sud/South
and Nord/North show every promise of being realized. If there was a
caveat in that it would have been the “subject to” of enough sub-zero’s
C on the Sud/South Resort base level, but even that is looking good now
with a very solid, sustained level at well below zero C through today
at the base of Johannsen.

The Summit POV’s show that the portable snowmaking guns
have been redeployed elsewhere as they have been removed
and probably repositioned to fill in blanks on lower elevations.

We take that as an extremely positive sign indicating the abundant
quantity of snow at the Mountain’s peak. In our opinion that can
mean either an increasing degree of fullness within the lower portions
of trail development, or an early expansion of opening terrain.

As a possible example of the fill in the blanks concept we would
point out the lower left snap shot at the Sud/South Resort Base,
Johannsen trail, where the snowmaking night-shift is very busy
spreading the coverage out in what appears to be a wider dimension
between the Flying Mile Quad and the Gondola lines.

As of daylight hours, the Summit web cam scanning POV shows
snowmaking on “Rope Tow”, within the upper Lowell Thomas
Sector. This would be a rare, and an excellent example of “early
expansion of opening terrain”.

11.23.22.Weather.Conditions.Observations.At.10.45.a.jpg (1.11 MiB) Viewed 6267 times

It is important to note that the lower left web cam snap shot from
above of Johannsen Trail at the Sud/South Resort base, shows a
much wider dimension than we have been able to observe in past
openings to this base level. From that standpoint, this indicates
a comparatively more extensive and refined opening trail quality
for everything leading down to this level.
