T360 Late Evening Apres Ski Edit, Under Construct At 10:21 P.M.
We were a wee bit wrong...
In the orig. post below we elaborate on
how quiet we expected it to be. It was
not that quiet. For sure it was not jamb’d
up crowded either, but there was a surprising
and very enthusiastic group out with a lot
more kids in the mix than we thought
could be possible. It was rumoured that
it could actually still be a Holiday for some,
but we can’t confirm where from.
There are a TON of American guests here
now, so the way we heard it, there are some
large groups that have come up because it
is a widely held opinion in the general/regional
ski population that Tremblant is the place to
be for the best conditions in the North-East.
Well, we really do have a Happy New Year
Winter going on, and the heavily falling
snow all day was indeed, a special contribution
to an excellent day.
What we can also tell you, with absolute certainty
is that in a very snowy, very quiet and peaceful
way, Tremblant is magnificently beautiful.

The skiing over freshly falling snow had a rather
satin-like feel underfoot. There was a fairly high
internal humidity in it so where there had been
some icy bits, the new snow was quite effectively
bonding with it. As a result, the traction was literally
increasing by the run. The humidity also made for
just a touch of friction, so steeper runs had great
natural speed control and with the added grip, we
had run after run of fantastic performance.
It would be very important to state that the user-friendly
extended to all skill levels, and that’s why we’re featuring
Nansen in this report. It was easy for all, really quite sweet.

It was cool to go along with the snowy, but not so cool
to be unpleasant. If you were being at all athletic in
terms of energetic skiing, the cool was actually a nice
balance for the personal warmth you could generate
with very vigorous exercise.

For tomorrow, groomed in, we think the new snow
is going to make for some exceptional skiing.

It’s Going To Seem Very Quiet Today....
The “Holidays” Are Over...
All the tourists have all gone home...
It’s a regular work-week Monday...
It’s a school day...
Where it’s freshly groomed this morning, it may still seem
freshly groomed at Last Run. Maybe. Regardless though,
we are forecasting traffic to be a small fraction of the Holiday
peaks, so the consequence may logically be that there should
be a similar fractional wear/use pattern. With the expanses of
wide open terrain available, that means those lucky enough to
be here today should enjoy both solitude and extraordinary
all-day quality.
Weather Notes:
Crowd Scene?
This is a file shot from a recent day it snowed
and we are always happy to have real people
it the pic. because it gives “scale” to the image,
but... we actually do not think you’ll see this
many on any trail at once, all day today.

Conditions Notes:
Today is day-3 of a nice little “Cold-Snap” where it’s
definitely cooler that we’ve seen in a while and typically,
that allows for significant overnight grooming refinements
where fresh machine work incrementally elevates base
quality consistency over the open footprint.
Combine that with the very low traffic of the post-Holiday,
early January attendance of primarily local's and close-at-hand
regional’s, and we are forecasting what we might call a “Private
Club” day.
It is possible that you may find yourself entirely alone on the
slopes you choose for run after run, with a spooky absence
of other human beings anywhere in sight.
Enjoy!
(if you are not here, you should be. These are exactly
the kinds of low traffic, durable quality conditions every
traveling Skier dreams of. We call this upcoming period,
starting today, “Value Weeks” because it is technically
now “Low Season” for accommodation rates, but the low
traffic numbers mean exceptional, uncrowded, enjoyment
without line-ups or delay.)
We are a bit surprised to see that the snowmaking icons
on Versant Nord/North Side Expo that started yesterday
are not active today. Maybe it’s related to the power outage?
We will try to find out as it is unusual that snowmaking, once
started, would not continue for consecutive days in order to
build the trail base.
In the Experts Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades/Un-Groomed,
there continues to be a good early season selection on
Versant Nord/North Side and with a fair amount of fresh
snow together with more snowfall forecast for today, it’s
reasonable to expect improving conditions in this category.
(#)Please Note: There is a bit of contradictory data referencing
the Soleil Sector where the Soleil Quad is affected by a power
outage but the Casino Gondola is available to the Versant
Sud/South Side, main Resort/Gondola Base. The red banner
attached to the Trail Status Data below was also there yesterday
on the full page version and we have added it as an attachment
to the printable version today because it is only on the full version
again today. We will attempt to obtain more situational info. for
later inclusion. The contradictory part is the specific “Soleil is Open”
verbiage, however the Soleil data block within the document
shows trails are all closed. Yesterday, with the same notice,
the Soleil Trails were indicated with open green tick-marks.
