Sunny, Cold And Very Cool Skiing!

Weather Notes:
“Bundle Up” Alert... This might be the coolest morning
of the season, so-far. Over the course of the day the sun
will certainly warm things up, but it could seem very cool
up until about 11:00A.M., so adequate layers with ventilation
zips for adjustability will be the best way to adapt.
A current early morning advantage is that there appears
to be a temperature inversion to the Summit where it
is as much as +8C warmer than the Sud/South Base.
Typically, that would be temporary, ’til about noon,
when we would expect temps to even out over the
Mountains vertical rise.

Conditions Notes:
The Cryogenic Snow Zone:
Cryogenic’s is the study of cold on materials
and it is usually associated with the word “very”
attached as a descriptive. In the case of snow
we use it as a term to reference either the
performance characteristics of the skiing
experience over its surface as a medium, or
the effect it can have over the pre-existing
trail surfaces or snow-pack in the Sous Bois/Glades.
Today, we theorize we have both.
Firstly:
Cryogenic snow has very low to no internal
humidity. It is physically what freeze-dried
coffee is like in the sense that it is literally
a very dry crystal and as such it lacks some
of the natural lubricant qualities of warmer
snow. This can yield a touch of friction in
the underfoot feel. If you were not here yesterday,
you’d never notice it. The unique performance
benefit is an inherent speed control factor that
typically makes steeper pitches noticeably easier
to handle.
Cryogenic snow is typically so dry it makes bad
snowballs, the lack of internal humidity means
there is little to no adhesive bonding possible
with normal hand pressure. Under the weight
of a 21,000 Lbs. grooming machine however,
there is a very effective mechanical bond where
the billions and quadrillions of tiny particles are
forced to interlock with one-another under massive
weight alone. This compacted cryogenic snow trail
surface offers unique and distinct very high lateral
grip performance for all aspects of edge control,
from Expert high speed carving, to low speed Beginner
snow-plow turning.
The bottom line for the freshly groomed is that it
is easy and fun for everyone in unique ways that are
different than all other forms of warmer, groomed snow.
Secondly:
In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades/Un-Groomed
categories, an overnight cold-shock can literally
freeze-dry treat the entire Mountain to produce
a noticeable lightness of and in the top layers that is
immediately apparent from the previous tendency
of damper thickness that was there in the rather
more moist snow that fell the day before yesterday.
In this case, the cryogenic effect may be to have
more natural speed in the absence of the previous
thickness.
It is important to note that the Sous Bois is primarily
Experts Only. This is especially critical in the early
season when natural hazards can be either present,
or be revealed by traffic, in the course of a days use.
There are many individual/unique factors in the bush
and for that reason we recommend very cautious initial
explorations in order to confirm safe descents before
you go blasting through the trees.
Please Note: We have had several inquiries why the Edge Sector
is not open with all this snowfall. It is our understanding, subject
to corrections and updates, that there is a mechanical component
issue with the Edge Sector Quad lift that is not yet resolved.
We are not aware of any timeline for service restoration however
we will attempt to make inquiries for Official information.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.
(

First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
