Today's Main Attraction:

The industrial snowmaking weather of 2 days ago has
left the big bumps you see in the zoom-in below for
yesterday, and today, those big bumps have been milled
flat over the length and width of Versant Sud/South Side
Trail # 12, Erik Guay.

It is the “dog leg” shaped trail you can see at the Summit
level above, third trail over from centre, to the left.

The advantage of this style of “big bump” trail development
is that all the surface irregularities of rocky or forestation
debris and uneven ground contours, all simultaneously get
equalized and buried under one seamless mantle of complete
wall-to-wall finished grooming membrane that forms the
foundational base for the balance of the season.

This is a local’s/regional Tremblant fan favourite and its
opening today will indeed be the main attraction for many
in attendance. With the overnight dusting of fresh snow,
plus the initial groomed surfaces, it should be in very fine
condition today. It will also respond very favourably to
“break-in” public use, as well as subsequent grooming,
so we would expect to see increasing refinements.

Weather Notes:

The heavy snowfall warning that was included yesterday
was removed today from both the 7 day and hourly forecast
portions, however it was still a banner on the 14 day outlook.

Typically, we only include those bulletins if they occur on
the hourly. It would appear as though the most active part
of the system is now going to be to the South of us, however
Mother Nature reserves the right to alter plans without any
notice to humans, and some of the forecast suggests to us
that we could still get significant snowfall.

Conditions Notes:

In the Groomed:

We expect very fine to excellent across the entire
range skill levels of freshly groomed trails. On
the brand new Trail # 12, Erik Guay, there may be
the typical type of mixed particle sizes common to
initial machine finished surfaces, but we think the
overnight dusting may help to accelerate the break-in
process.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Still a la Carte conditions subject to cautious initial
explorations, however, there is quite a good ambient
depth in the Versant Nord/North Side open Sous Bois
zones, so once you see the patterns of use evolving,
there should be good line-of-sight navigation for
hazard avoidance provided your speed is kept within
check. There can be hazards that are not easily visible
from above until you are virtually on top of them, so
lower speeds will be your best strategy for maintaining
nimble response capability.
