T360 Midnight Apres Ski Edit @ 11:57 P.M.

This Is Exactly The Kind Of Day We
Had At Tremblant Today.

Weather-wise, it was pure, sunny, scenic magnificence.

Skiing-wise, it was a bit more technical than
we might have thought it would be, but for
good reason, that being slightly softer, looser
top laters of new snow that were just a little
thicker due to the volume. We think the Official
7 cm’s that may have been recorded at base
levels was greater at some elevations and the
depths on some trails did allow for thicker
tracking and some shallow mogul formations,
occasionally even within Green terrain ranges.

Below is an illustration of that further down
Algonquin from the top photo. You can see the
tracking and thickness buildup as the close
skier passes through it. For experienced
Intermediates, with a bit of assertive control,
it was no problem. For Beginners, it was a solid
challenge, but with perseverance, doable.

One more night of grooming should fix all of it.

For Experts, it was a great day all around.

Great speed, great control, and the softness
was for the most part, a functional shock-absorber
in the bumpy bits.

Tomorrows forecast includes base level temps
a degree or two below Zero C and more snowfall,
so we have another day of great potential.

Stay tuned...

Sunny, Soft And Very Sweet Snow...

Statistical Highlight:

As Of Today... @ 434 cm’s, Tremblant’s So-Far Seasonal Snowfall
Accumulation Is Now Above The 25 Year Seasonal Snowfall TOTAL.

Let that sink in for a moment. What you are looking at below
is as much snow on February 6, as Tremblant has received
on total seasonal average, over the past 25 years.

If you think that getting as much snow by Feb. 6 as falls
on average for an entire season has anything to do with
the quality or forecast for the remainder of this season,
we don’t think you need to be a “Rocket Scientist” to figure
out there is spectacular potential within the second half of
the season here at Tremblant.

Otherwise...
In our opinion, the lingering effects of the Polar Vortex will
be evident again today as the very stable consistency in
the base on an all day basis.

The heavy shot of cold that kept most folks curled up in
front of the warm fireplace 48 hours ago is still embedded
in the top layers of the trail network, insulated by the snow
that has fallen overtop since then and we think that combination
is going to make for a another day of incrementally refined
skiing and boarding, but with the ease and comfort of a
relatively warm, sunny day.

Weather Notes:

The wavy intrusion of the Polar Vortex has moved off
and we seem to be headed for another period of mild
temps that are going to make conditions really easy
for the foreseeable future.

Please Note: There is a formatting error in the hourly
weather data where 2 graphics got inadvertently switched.
The afternoon hours and the early morning hours are
reversed in above/below order. Sorry about that.

Conditions Notes:

Within the freshly groomed array, we feel there is a
substantial potential for synergistic effects that could
yield another outstanding day of incrementally elevated
performance and versatility across the entire range of
skill levels.

We are at the stage where what we refer to as “seasonal
maturity” becomes evident in the seamless access between
all the various skill levels and that makes it very easy for
aspiring Beginners and Intermediates to safely explore
increased challenge with minimal risk. This is particularly
applicable when the challenge is related primarily to steepness.

If you warm up thoroughly on gentle terrain, those basic
control moves that become easier and more automatic in
reflexive response, also become easier to transfer to increased
slope angels, as long as you remain focused on gradual
increases in difficulty, with absolute stopping and speed
control.

These are conditions that make it easy to get better,
and move up in your own repertoire of skills.

In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed,
there are zones of excellence and there are also zones of
significant Expert exclusivity. In these categories there
continue to be far more individualistic conditions and
aspiring skill developers need to be extremely cautious
because the challenge comes from steepness, very large
moguls and tracked thickness that can generate large
differences in forward resistance, all within metres along
any descent pathway.

The Ski Patrol have clearly marked hazard zones and
where “Experts Only”, “Hazard” or “Caution" signs are
hand posted, these indications should be taken literally
and with great respect.
