102/102(*) Open Trails On All 4 Open Sectors At #Tremblant .
A Mixed Bag Of Foggy, Snowy, Sunny, Clear
(Not Necessarily In That Order), All At Easy Temp’s
With Soft Surfaces.
Here is what we expect today for Groomed surface performance:

The above photo is specific to this temp range, hovering just around Zero C
and within a timeframe of after about 12 to 14 hours of exposure at that
level. What we are likely to end up with is a significant “Shred” characteristic
which you can see as a curl of snow coming off the outboard ski, accompanied
by “chunky bits” in the air. If it was colder, it would all be be a dusty discharge.
Weather Notes:
The hourly forecast models have changed multiple
times in the last few hours, sometimes within a
few minutes, so we really do not have a complete
forecast picture. You’ll need to be ready for anything
at least up until noon or so.
In our opinion it’s unlikely to ever get really wet, but
it is possible that rainy bits may briefly traverse the
region.
After that what is most sure is the drop in the temps
that will have a far greater impact on tomorrow than today.
------- Environment Canada Flash Freeze Warning -------------
Conditions Notes:
“Spring-Like” due to sustained ambient temp levels
for many hours including the overnight period. This
is not to mention the influence of very high humidity
and some periodic fine, as in small, precipitation sort-of
spitting on and off in a semi-foggy atmosphere.
What that means for skiing in the groomed is very high
levels of traction. We think it should also be quite forgiving
because there is still a very well entrenched cold core base
foundation, so we think it is unlikely to develop much in
the way of moguls as the soft top layers are fairly shallow.
There is one wild-card which is traffic potential generated by
the U.S. President’s Day and Ontario Family Day Official Holidays.
For the American Group, it is a popular strategy to make this
a week long holiday, so we frequently see friends from NYC
New Jersey, Boston/Mass. etc., etc., up for the entire week.
The bulk of the Ontario people are typically from the Ottawa
area and are either day-trippers or long-weekender’s so
many of them hit the road early and it could be a quiet
late afternoon, maybe.
Otherwise, the softness should be an asset in the Sous Bois,
Hors Piste, Glades and Un-Groomed where it also makes for
relatively forgiving conditions that frequently have a bit of
automatic speed control in the thicker bits.
Evidently, tomorrow is going to be a whole different story...
“Edges” folks, bring edges if you are reading this for planning insight.
