When The Sun Gets After It A Bit...
Shred This:

A moderately variable “Wild Card” for today may be the
degree of solar energy that gets through to the top layers
to generate the difference you can see between above and
below. The distinction is that above, we see the possibility
of some Versant Sud/South and Soleil lower levels that could
get quite soft and be prone to mogul building due to the direct
radiant force of the sun, while below are the shallower possibilities
that may also be evident for most, if not all of today on upper and
Nord/North sectors.
On an overall basis, we feel that the the forecast sample below
is the most likely scenario for the bulk of the elevated trail
network because of their typically cooler temps and the residual
chill of the overnight -8 C lows.

Weather Notes:
With the sun this high in the March sky, there is a good
chance the temps may exceed the forecast highs. It should
be exceedingly photogenic and you may want sunscreen
for not only today, but keep it in your kit bag for future
sunny days as apparently there are more on the way.

Conditions Notes:
With a lot of sun, after a lot of overnight cold, there are very likely
going to be a wide variety of conditions from firmly solid with
some icy bits, to very soft and prone to mogul formations.
There will most likely be quite a noticeable distinction between
the sun drenched warmed Sud/South and long shadow’d, cooler
Nord/North sectors.
For that reason, for today and the foreseeable future, T360 is
recommending a serious focus on ski/board edge tuning,
before you come to the Mountain, in order to optimize safe
performance where surfaces may be firm or slick, to soft and
bumpy, all within one Summit-to-Base descent path.
Snow surface temperatures will be oscillating above and below
Zero C throughout the near-term forecast outlook and that means
the daily performance profiles are probably going to be very similar
as well. The main characteristic is going to be the morning firmness
and the afternoon softness, but there may be mixed shades in-between
because where the softness allows mogul formations, the wear patterns
can expose firm or icy bits in the valleys between the moguls.
The only way to be ready for anything is to have well tuned edges
before you arrive.
We realize well informed readers here may be the last ones to need
this reminder, however it is also the responsibility of our informed
community to promote the benefits of tuning to all our friends and
family that may be planning to attend as well.
