Very, very beneficial -9C elevation differential
as key winds aloft over the Mountain are evidently
much cooler and help keep shades of winter
continuity all day.

Tremblant Is Just Full Of “Sweet Spots” !


Mini Performance Review Sample:


The very bottom of Duncan, as you can see immediately
above the Duncan Quad Base, has a segregated training
pitch that is immaculately maintained and periodically used
with Jr. training gates loosely set in a Slalom or tight GS
course. You can see Instructors here with big gangs of
Rug Rats running gates, just to get them used to the
concept and maybe even encourage the ones that show
aptitude to be involved with an organized race program.

Most of the time, it is freely available to the public and
it can be entered from either lower Duncan or lower Expo
where you will find it as one of the very sweetest little
carving segments of the entire Mountain.

The quality of the groomed performance levels has been outstanding
here for just about the entire time since it was prepared and opened
months ago. Just like this, we’ve been ripping up the super-smooth,
super high traction slopes that have had amazing consistency and reliability.

Excellent technical merit has been a daily standard.

While “Sweet Spots” is a recognizable phrase or widely
understood concept, what we really have at Tremblant
right now are Sweet Zones, Sweet Sectors and if you want
to summarize the common denominator, a whole Sweet
Mountain of very close to ideal optimization.

This runout to the base of the Duncan Quad just happens to
be a very visible sweet spot but the point of including it as
a review specifically is that it is both an outstanding way to
finish a run, as well as that it is typical of most of the larger
groomed domain on the Mountain above it.

We’re not quite sure what the actual depth is here because
the Ski Brakes got jammed up in the vertical plunge and
could not be pushed further. We estimate the free depths
of powder reserve to be in excess of 200cm’s in this Open
Sous Bois Versant Nord Sector. Great for today, great for the
rest of the season, plus, every good reason to expect more!

Just a reminder that statistically, this is already the third highest
natural snowfall accumulation in 25 years of history. With a month
left to go we could maybe get to No. 2, or with a good late season
blizzard, No. 1 ???

In the Groomed:

Very fine to excellent with the proviso that when
trails are subjected to Mother Nature oscillating
spring temperature ranges that cross over Zero C,
there can be the typical morning firmness after
the last afternoon’s softness warmth. The default
is smooth, so that makes everything easier to deal
with. Additionally, there are many of the Versant
Nord/North Side Sweet Spots that do not see the
thermal influence hardly at all because they are
shaded, and/or the suns rays hit them so obliquely
that there is not enough radiant energy to affect
the surfaces with any significant warmth.


Every spring skiing day is a unique fingerprint with
almost infinitely variable nuances, so while some
generalizations can be made, those can not be
applied in every case. So, explorations that start
with careful speeds and wide ranging observations
for patterns are fully warranted before you go blasting
around.


In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Be cautious in established traffic patterns where there
can be down-side hazards that are not visible until
you are almost on top of them. On some of the steeper
pitches there can be flow zones below some crests
where icy bits have evolved so we think it is wise to
approach all crests with very conservative speeds
until you can confirm safe descent below.

There are still untracked very deep snow accumulation
reserves(see our “Proof Of Snow” above), however the
internal humidity of the snow makes it somewhat thick
in tracking characteristics so Expert skills and significant
muscle reserves are required if you intend to do extensive
bushwhacking.
