T360 Prime Time Apres Ski Edit, Under Construct @ 9:31 P.M.
Here’s what your friends were doing all day at Tremblant...

Above:
The Nord/North definitely had more consistency in
the reliability of glitch-free traction. There were
many entire Summit-To-Base descent combinations
of seamless traction. It has more drifted in snowfall
coverage and a fraction of the exposure to solar energy
so Nord/North slopes are just not showing much in
the way of “Spring” influences... yet.
Below:
The Sud/South had some icy bits generated by previous
weather and wind profiles that partially inhibited retention of
snowfall, however if you had tuned edges there was nothing
unmanageable, it just meant you had to be more sensitive
to relationships between speed and traction.
3.21.23.Erik.Guay.Summit.Views.Over.Lac.T.c.jpg
(As a footnote to above we’d like to point out the
vertical cross-section at the Summit peak of Erik
Guay where you can see on the descending left
side a thickness of snowmaking buildup here that
is close to 10 feet deep. This is only one of hundreds
of examples where Mountain crews made very deep
strategic early season deposits. We think these extra
snow inventories at critical points could make a huge
difference to sustainable spring conditions in the rest
of the season.)
Versant Soleil, Algonquin specifically, was quite close
to flawless, with excellent natural speed. Not so much
as a smidgeon of icy, anywhere that we could find. It
was so good it warranted 3 quick laps of very high
traction action.
What made it great for GS style rapid transit also
made it great for Beginners and Intermediates,
low friction, excellent forgiving grip.

Here’s some detail of the mid-Algonquin surfaces.
You can see there is not even a hint of saturation,
but the shear properties allow for very low friction
and simultaneously great edging performance.

The summary is... fantastic, with very early hints of Spring Skiing.

97(*) Open Trails.
Here’s Most Of What You Need To Know About The New Snow...
It’s quite dry, light, and there are places on the Mountain
where it drifted in to considerable depths that exceed the
Official total.

Sweet Spots.
Your Expert mission is to get out there,
explore responsibly and find them.

We are always thrilled to find willing volunteers to
help give picture human scale, so thanks to C.S.

Genuine, authentic “Winter” days are statistically a
diminishing commodity by March 20, so it is just
a bit of symbolic irony to have such a real Winter
day on the first Official day of Spring.
In last night’s Apres Ski we used the word “select”
to describe the technical excellence that could be
found within the range of open terrain and that is
to specifically highlight the inevitable variations
that can occur, sometimes within quite close proximity.
Trail # 64, Marie-Claude Asselin is only one very fine
example.
Below is another shot of our volunteer as we tried to
capture a performance sample on Versant Nord/North
Side Expos Sector, trail # 94 , La Griffe.
Where you see very easy Expert fun that was virtually
ice free on MCA above, La Griffe, below, did have some
icy bits, but it was totally wall-to-wall smooth.
The point is that careful exploring will lead to discovery
of the variety of conditions and the relative difference in
quality that Mother Nature has generated by the unique
wind, temperatures, and solar influences. La Griffe is so
smooth that it was still very easy to navigate, however
sharp edges are critical for optimized control.

Weather Notes:
The Elevation Differential, typically the Summit is -4C cooler,
means that the precip. has a very high probability of being
all snow over the trail network.
Please note that over the past several days we have seen that
temp spread beneficially vary between -5C, to as much as -9C,
so it will be interesting to see if that cooler than average trend
continues.

Conditions Notes:
In the Groomed:
Expanding quality and quantity due to synergistic
combinations of new snowfall with repeated grooming
cycles over a multi-day Sub-Zero C temp. pattern
over Mountain Elevations.
It may have been close to Zero at some base levels,
but up on the Mountain it’s been a mild yet totally
cool easy winter for 3 days now and that is showing
in the incremental refinements of each day.
In the Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:
Scroll back up to the Sous Bois Pic. sample from
the Lowell Thomas trail side and you’ll have the
best analysis we can give you on this group.
It is not like this everywhere because of wind-shaped
exposures or drift-in depending on what side you’re
on, but the point is, there’s lots of great new fresh
snowfall and it is especially evident on Nord/North
and Edge sectors.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
