T360 Apres Midnight Apres Ski Edit Under Construct At 12:11 A.M.
Vision was definitely a challenge for photography today,
but exactly as we anticipated, the skiing on the groomed
was clinically excellent.
3.23.23.Sud.South.Nansen.Bas.Lower.Foggy.Fast.Quite.Near.Flawless.c.jpg
Tremblant had some extraordinarily fine groomed
surfaces today, some in the seasonal top 5, and at
least a handful or so possibly close to the best in
recent years.
Of course the weather was not ideal for creature comfort,
but for front-side carving performance it was almost ideal
in the way it delivered just a touch of shallow top grip layers
over a super smooth base for rocket-fast natural speed and
Ferrari level handling if you had edges and muscle enough
to harness the astounding levels of turning force that were
possible.
From around noon when there was a hint of softening,
Duncan was an example of almost perfection that would
absolutely be comparable to the best of any recent seasons.
3.23.23.Nord.North.Duncan.Bas.Lower.Clearing.Weather.Seasonal.Best.Performance.Excellence.c.jpg
La Griffe and Expo were also sited as being examples of
the highest seasonal quality. There were many others and
for the most part, you found yourself absolutely alone
for the vast majority of the day because a few rain drops
appeared in the forecast which other than about 10 minutes
of very light drizzle at the Nord/North base level, we never
saw or were exposed to for a second up on the trails. Just
to add a finishing touch, for one of our rides up the Duncan
Quad, for the top third of the accent, it was snowing.
A run down Edge Sector LeTendre also showed a light
fresh snowfall accumulation within that sector, so it that
opens for the weekend we would expect it to be a sweet spot.
Tomorrow looks like sunny and getting up to a couple
degrees over Zero C so it may be firm in the morning
but ultimately by the later half, we expect more of the
todays performance, just under a blue sky!

Memories Of Winter.
It seems like yesterday.
Oh wait... it was yesterday...
3.22.23.Sud.South.Nansen.Bas.Lower.Runout.To.Base.Proof.Of.Snow.d.jpg
It’s really quite remarkable. If we had published
this lower Nansen runout pic, just above the
Fairmont Resort Base on the 23rd of January,
no one would doubt it, however it is indeed
a shot from late afternoon yesterday and it
may well be the last time we see this kind
of clean snow, this low on Versant Sud/South
Side, this season.
In the meantime, over on Johannsen, just above
the Gondola Base Station, the sun and warm air
worked together to generate the softest spring
snow of the day. Observe the curl of snow coming
off the outside ski which is all of the classic spring
shred you need to confirm.
3.22.23.Sud.South.Johannsen.Soft.Spring.Shred.Action.b.jpg
Everything on the Mountain above this mark was winter-like.
It will not be quite the same today, but the main carry-over will
be the very shallow depth to which any warmth can penetrate
and the consequent durability of smooth, fast, totally winter coverage.
This is due to the very well established and extremely supportive
residual frost in the conical mass of the Mountain which is going
to be there for roughly the next two months, when all we need is
the next three weeks to finish out the Official season ending April 16.
3.22.23.Nord.North.Summit.Lowell.Thomas.Sector.Gorgeous.Winter.Long.Views.b.jpg
Below:
This pic is about 39 hours old and the snow has not
gone anywhere. We do not actually know the depth here
because we could not reach solid ground with the vertical
plunge of the ski pole and we left the handle visible for
the sake of the illustration. These poles are 122cm’s/4 feet,
so we think there’s maybe 6 feet ? +/- ? here ???
Regardless, there’s a lot, so much so that one could only
reasonably conclude it’s going to be a fantastic Spring
Skiing season coming right up.
3.21.23.Nord.North.Lowell.T.Cat.Track.To.Devils.River.Trailside.Snow.Depth.Sample.c.jpg
Weather Notes:
We want emphasize that with this hourly forecast profile,
80% of the time the conditions over the elevations of the
trail network are way better than the Sud/South ground
level projections. To some degree this is because most
of the active weather happens below the cloud, not so
much in the cloud, which is exactly where the Summit is.
We could be wrong, but the odds are in our favour.
Conditions Notes:
You will need to be able to separate conditions today
into two distinct categories, surfaces and atmospheric.
Obviously with the weather forecast, you’ll need to
be ready for anything on the atmospheric side.
(see below...)
Clinically, the Skiing should be excellent. Slightly surface
warmed snow with a solid foundational base underneath
can and does produce fabulous technical high performance
ski conditions.
It could be one of the top front-side carving days of the season
with mega-traction and wall-to-wall, Summit-to-Base, totally
complete full winter coverage on virtually everything open.
On the atmospheric side, there are some chances it will be like this:
3.8.12.Sissy.Schuss.Descente.Poncho.jpg
Even though the chances could be classified as “remote”,
there is some possibility that some of the precip. could
be snowfall, especially if air masses over the Summit
are cooler.
There are also chances that the Official Open Trail
list could change one or more times today.

Utility Advisory:
Vision may be an issue. Yellow lens curved industrial
safety glasses are optimal for eye protection and
contour definition. You don’t need goggles, it’s already
warm out and they can fog up. All you need is to keep
atmospheric/cloud particle blast out of your eyes,
while restoring topographical definition contrast.
Please Note: Edge Sector Closed Today.
