First Tracks Beauty!

(“Kool”, but still beautiful...)

The web cam view of the Summit info. board is obscured
by snowmaking fog from the top of Taschereau, so we
can not read the number but based on the common
elevation differential of -4C cooler than base at the
summit, it should be between -19C and -21C. The
kicker is going to be the wind gusts. Facing into the
“breezes” with any significant downhill speed, the
cold air is going to have genuine “bite” and you’re
going to need to be ready for that at first tracks.

Weather Notes:

One of the big elements to watch for in the next
24 hours is the influence of the vigorous wind.
Ground level velocity forecasts, especially the
gust spikes, could be double at Summit levels,
so not only is it decidedly cool, but with a bit of
a “Howler”, the wind chill values could make this
seem like an end of January day.

Legitimate “Bundle Up” advisory.

Additional Weather Factors:

The cold effects of the Polar Vortex are going to pass off today.

What we have to look forward to is a return to mild
seasonal averages, as well as some really good potential
for natural snowfall.

The overnight lows should offer great opportunities
for rapid snowmaking advances throughout the next
14 days of the long range outlook.

Conditions Notes:

Continued delayed opening on Sud/South Summit access to
Beauvallon and Alpine.

We have a theory this may be related to logistical
preparations for the upcoming F.I.S. World Cup
Women’s G.S. and we will attempt to confirm that.
We could be wrong.

Snowmaking icons have been activated again and the
interesting things there are 1)the development of both
Vanier and Gagnon from the Versant Nord/North peak
of the Expo Quad Sector, and 2) No indicated snowmaking
on Versant Sud/South, when the web cams show that
there is very active snowmaking on at least Johannsen
and over towards the final runout of Nansen to the Resort
Base adjacent to the Fairmont. It seemed like a logical
theory that with the F.I.S. race course taking up the
primary real estate on Sud/South sectors from the
Flying Mile peak down, that there may have been an
effort to open Nansen Bas/Lower as the public access
to ski out to the Resort, however we could be way wrong
on that too. It will be interesting to see how it all shapes
up, but certainly we can understand that there may be
many many complex Event issues we are not aware of.

As this is the “First” F.I.S. event at Tremblant in this
modern era, it is also totally understandable that there
is a huge learning curve for planners that may have
any degree of evolving change or adaptation for access,
especially because snowmaking is weather dependant
when it comes to major trail openings.

All we can do is be patient, and stay aware of Official
notifications which we will attempt to add to the record
here A.S.A.P.

One weather related aspect of the conditions is the
potential for some drifting benefit in the lee-side
sheltered zones of the open upper Nord/North.
From the Lowell Thomas sector, right on over to
Beauchemin/P’tit Bonheur could see some sweet
settling snow backfilling as the strong S/W wind
is pushing up over the Taschereau facing side.
The upper portions of Nansen could see some
good additions too.

A Word To The Wise...

For those fortunate enough to be able to get out
tomorrow, there are great prospects for very fine
conditions of fresh snow and way milder temps.

Please Note: Your T360 author is not yet able to
be on site due to a post-surgical, medical LOA.
We expect to have that cleared by mid-December.
Thanks for your patience. In the mean-time, we
intend to maintain the daily, chronologically filed,
weather and trail status data plus whatever
observational commentary possible for archival
date/seasonal/historical period sampling.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you "Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
