Big Jump in Open Trail count this A.M. to 76!

SNOWING, DRIFTING POWDER ALERT!

Yup, it's possible this morning that you will find some
excellent areas of Powder reserve as a result of the
drifting/snowing factor. These powder reserve areas
could be found almost anywhere on the Mountain,
however, there will most likely be more to find on the
North Side.

The weather today will see high base temps around -5C
or so and the Summit is forecast to remain below-10C.
The winds should be moderate at between 15-20km
from the West. Nice winter conditions that when added
to the new snow we've gotten mean Tremblant has got
wonderful Skiing and Boarding!

This is one of those Conditions reports that does not need
too much more description as practically speaking, all the
open terrain is FABULOUS! Just get out there and take advantage
of it!

You must make all the excuses necessary and go to Tremblant NOW!

We're not kidding! If you are missing this, you're missing too much!

Is your Favorite Tremblant Trail Open? If not, at this rate,
it probably won't be long. This is exactly what we need,
lots of light, dry, naturally falling snow that will make a
big contribution to both the Quality and Depth of our base.
This is what we are waiting for... Beautiful Winter conditions
setting in and building accumulations that will help get us
to 100% fully open.

There are just some days when you have to set everything
else aside and hit the slopes at Tremblant. This is one of them!

If you can play Hooky this week to get to Tremblant, do it.

Their was very little snow on the North Side the wind swept it all a way.
The snow was a huge disappointment not as much as they called for
heck there was more on my deck this morning. Why aren't they breaking
down any of the mounds built by the snowmaking? Geant has been like
that for days also Kandahar, Laurentienne, La Griffe, Derni-Cri and
Flying Mile. It's dangerous and they could have a lot more quality
terrain open. To conclude, I was disappointed in my trip to Tremblan
I know there has not been much natural snow ,but to make snow and
then not do anything with it well that is not right....

Hi Andrew,

Thank You for your post, it brings up interesting questions.

We are going to check into it and will report back to you,
but it is our understanding that the big mounds have to
sit for a period of time in order to "dry out", if that would
be the correct terminology, before they can be spread
over the surface.

As far as we understand, the formation of the big mounds
of blown snow are one way to efficiently use the labour
required to produce the amount of snow that would be
needed to cover any given square area of coverage.

Considering that you have to eventually drive a packer
over the surfaces anyway, rather than having crews take
hours and hours to move the guns around to get even
coverage, you just form the big mounds as a stationary
form of "inventory", then later on, you spread it out like
butter with your big blade packers.

Another advantage of the big mounds is that you can place
them strategically over areas that might normally be a big
natural hazard, like a rock outcropping, a big gully, or an
area of thick undergrowth, or particularly rough, uneven
ground. In this way, rather than having to wait for Mother
Nature to take weeks to cover it up, you just bury it under
a ton of snow.

Regardless of our own personal feelings (and we're Optimists,
so we always try to look at the positive side of things),
evaluating conditions is a somewhat subjective, personal
thing too, we were talking to another forum member by
phone last night and she told us that she and her group
had really enjoyed the North side conditions and as Boarders,
they like the big mounds and consider them to be interesting
terrain features, sort of like park features. There were some
other internet reports yesterday that Geant was "beautiful”,
so evidently, there are those who where happy with things.

As a skier, I have played on these big mounds before they are
spread out, you will recall that they have used this snow making
technique on Expo for at least the past 2/3 seasons, for example,
and I must say that I prefer them to some of the jagged rock that
they cover, that used to be more of a part of early season conditions.

We know that the snow coverage is not as much as we would all
like to see, after all, the Mountain has only been open for a little
over 3 weeks.

The whole of Eastern North America has suffered because of the
late onset of winter, so when we talk about conditions, we are
talking in a relative sense, which is all you can do. From what
we are hearing, every Ski Resort in the East is going through
the same kinds of situations.
