The T360 Holy Grail Of Seasonal Maturity And
Groomed Conditions Excellence. Period.

Trail #66, Versant Nord/North Side “Le Tunnel” is by comparison
a tiny, tiny fraction the size of most trails at Tremblant, but it is
never-the-less indicative of excellence in grooming refinement
that only happens on rare occasions. It both symbolizes and
signifies the overall excellence of mature seasonal conditions
because it is not supported by any snowmaking whatsoever and
it can only be groomed when there is a sufficiently huge and
abundant accumulation of natural snowfall.

We call trails number 64/Marie-Claude Asselin, 65/Banzai and
66/Le Tunnel the Holy Grail Trinity of grooming at Tremblant
and when any of them get groomed, you KNOW everything else
is seasonally mature excellent, but... of the three, Le Tunnel is
usually the last one to be groomed, so when it is the first, that
is truly an extraordinary event, in this case one that we can not
recall ever seeing in 50 seasons.

99% of recreational tourist skiers will never see this trail,
and for decades it was left as a knee/thigh busting mogul
run with mega-moguls the size of VW Bug’s, but when
groomed, it’s true character shines through as a topographical
wonder where you can actually see how only Mother Nature
can take 4 Billion Pre-Cambrian years to shape granite to
flow like a river. It simply has one of, maybe even the best,
most rhythmic descent lines at Tremblant, and that is only
evident when it is freshly groomed.

It could be argued that this trail signifies a very large
part of what makes Tremblant unique within the entire
known Ski World.

Additionally, it is absolutely one of the most scenic, beautiful,
gorgeous, wonderful, memorable, fantastic, spectacularly
magnificent views on Planet Earth and if you miss it, you have
missed the opportunity of a lifetime to witness a gift from Heaven.

In it’s raw un-groomed form only the best, most athletic, highly
skilled and experienced Experts can handle it’s knarly bumps,
and you may not “feel” it’s rhythmic topographical contours.
Now, most of those Expert folks use only the adjacent left/right
Sous Bois/Hors Piste zones, so right this second it is available
to a 100 X's bigger audience...
and we would (under supervision),
take a confident Intermediate with good alternating “Hockey Stop”
skills on it with no problems at all.

Critical Repeat...
Additionally, it is absolutely one of the most scenic, beautiful,
gorgeous, wonderful, memorable, fantastic, spectacularly
magnificent views on Planet Earth and if you miss it, you have
missed the opportunity of a lifetime to witness a gift from Heaven.

Weather Notes:

Cool to start, for sure, but at least there’s not much wind, and...
those little breezes are from compass point N/W, so rising up
the Mountain over the Nansen sector, which should put almost
all of the upper Versant Nord/North Side area in the leeward
where if you make a safe trailside stop in a sunny spot, you will
be able to feel solar energy come through in less than a minute.

It is very important to reemphasize how significant it is to have
these cool spells during any winter season. It is time like this
that helps inject frost to a deeper level in the conical mass of
the Mountain, a vital refrigerant reserve that is absolutely critical
for trail base retention in the warm weeks of spring. The deeper
the cool is now, the longer it takes to radiate outward in spring,
so for anyone anxious to have a good long season, this is exactly
what you want to see.

A review of the 14 day long range shows that we only have
another 2 days of the cool so anyone planning for next week
is automatically going to have a warmer experience by quite
a number of degrees.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Super Kkkool, “Cryogenic” natural snowfall as the major part
of blended base components that also include blown snow
within the principle boulevards. This is the genuine, authentic
real winter cold snow that has unique “squeaky” characteristics
when you walk over it.

In this case, there has been just a touch of friction in it
which has actually been a positive for all skill levels in
that it has made control move implementation really
easy with just a touch of gravitational offset. If it’s your
first day out, you’ll never notice the difference, everything
will just feel smooth and very controllable.

What makes it controllable also makes it quite forgiving.
Little errors in edging are easily absorbed without tripping
you up, and even if you make a bigger mistake, recoveries
are quick and easy too.

This is primo learning snow with very naturally progressive
skill advancing potential, especially between the Green’s to
Blue’s, so Beginners and Intermediates can look forward
to rapid progress over a wider range of both square area
and challenge.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades/Un-Groomed:

The recent and significant additional snowfall amounts
over consecutive days has made a dramatic positive
improvement within these categories.

Care still needs to be taken though as the wind-shaping
that occurred with the delivery did generate some unique
highs and lows within the deposits, so hazards may be
lurking below the surface and the best way to avoid them
is with reduced speed and eye scans well forward to identify
the most even looking descent paths. Well worn is not
necessarily well covered and some hazards are literally
not visible until you’re almost right on top of them.
The small additional friction of these very cool crystals
is definitely an asset on steeper pitches where there
may be untracked lines, but after a few days of use, you’ll
have to go farther out on the fringes to find them.
