80 Open Trails today with a sugar coating of new snow!
The temps this morning are -11C, at the Summit -15C or so.
The temp's are forecasted to be headed down a bit for the next
day or so and right now, there is a combination of cloud with
the odd bit of blue sky poking through, but the look of the sky
definitely holds the prospect of snow in it. There is a fairly brisk
wind from the North-West or moving across the Mountain from
the Nansen Sector, so as usual when there is wind such as this,
you will want to bundle up and make sure that the seals around
your wrists, neck, waist, and boot tops are secure. Heat is stripped
out of these critical areas very quickly and having them unsealed
is just about like leaving the front door to your house open in a
snowstorm.
The winds today may affect Lift operations, so be prepared to
take other ways to the top if safety requires.

The Summit is Snowy and Sunny all at the same time, but the surfaces are pure Snow!
No Lift Lines, Great surfaces!
As far as quality carving surfaces go, it may have been
a long time since we have had such consistently high quality
covering the Mountain so completely.
Take a look at the list below to see your favorites.

Everywhere we cruised yesterday had exceptional grip. There was so much
traction that you could make 30-40-50 linked carving turns, one after the
other without fear, driving each turn through to the next in a surface you
could stand sideways on. We had to reduce the pace in order to keep energy
for the "next" run. The sheer joy of Skiing in these conditions was
therapeutically beneficial in numerous ways.
Choosing runs to take for any Skier or Boarder should of course involve
matching your skill level to the selected run, however there are times
when selecting trails that are below your skill level are a ton of fun.
The best outright carving surfaces on the Mountain are on the Green
and Blue skill level areas. Using "Expert" Carving technique on these
beautiful, high grip and traction Beginner and Intermediate runs like
P'Tit Bonheur, Nansen, Beauvallon, Alpine, Tobogan, Rigodon,
Beauchemin, etc., etc. can be absolutely thrilling. While keeping
careful attention to speed control and respecting those around you
in these areas, it is possible to make the endless, perfect, linked
carving turns as described above, for hours at a time. Not having
to worry or concern yourself with anything less than a perfect surface,
you can really focus on technique, balance, turn symmetry and any
other elements of your style you choose. It is Mother Natures Winter
Gym and doing "Rep's" here will not only make you a better Skier or
Boarder, but the vigorous exercise will make you a healthier person.
As a Skier, I can certainly say that even though we would all like to
have more snow and open terrain, what we have now is very fine
and we will recall this January, so far, as having remarkably good
conditions, a stable, firm base and generally being very user friendly.
Anyone that is complaining now is not choosing the right terrain for
their skill level and the conditions, does not have their equipment
properly tuned up with good, sharp, edges and/or does not understand
that we have to adapt to what Mother Nature has presented us with.
We have been promoting the necessity of properly prepared and tuned
equipment and how it is absolutely required to maximize both control
and enjoyment when we have the firm, all snow base that we have now
and yesterday, a new forum member, DR-BRUCE added his comments
in this area. We agree, properly tuned equipment allows you to utilize
these conditions to the fullest extent. If you have not seen Dr-BRUCE’s
comments, you should go back to yesterday and review them.
Tremblant is in Great shape, but getting the most
enjoyment means being properly prepared.
You need to bring good edges, a flexible attitude in terrain
selection and focus on Technique basics for your skill level.
