100(*) Open Trails.

Very Easy Control Snow,

Very Beautiful Scenic Surrounds.

The pic above is roughly 38 hours old, but it is still
what you will find right now. It provides insight into
virtually all conditions at Tremblant because it
simultaneously illustrates both the raw and the
finished characteristics of the half of a metre of
fresh new snowfall that is now a part of all open
terrain.

As far as the finished groomed trail surface here,
the smoothness and traction are superb. Due to
cold snow friction that is slightly elevated, speed
and directional control for Beginners are some of
the easiest conditions possible. Notwithstanding
the cold dressing challenge, this is fantastic learning
snow that is very forgiving and when you have a
trail like Nansen at over 6 Kilometres in length,
you will become a better skier virtually every run
just because you have such a long distance to
find your rhythm and build and establish a
mind-muscle skill set that is not inhibited by
having to get back on a lift every two minutes.

As far as the raw material side, which now includes
all the Sous Bois bush and un-groomed mogul zones,
you can see in the foreground how the loose snow
has been displaced. Basically, because of its loft and
natural unpacked density, it is very capable of floating
your weight easily on skis, however the depth of your
displacement will act as a breaking effect just because
you sink into it far enough that there’s considerable
frontal resistance.

In some Open Nord/North and Edge Sector Hors Piste
zones, on skis you are going through fresh untracked snow
that is halfway up to your knees. That is the floatation
part. If you step off your skis, there are many places
that you will sink into the snow up to your waist before
it floats you, but walking through it is impossible because
your feet are not on the ground.

Weather Notes:

We are not sure why there is such a large difference
in the actual temp values @ -26C showing on our
old-fashioned analogue thermometer and the
temp shown on the Official Trail Status Data, but
it is indeed -26C and if don’t dress for that you
will not be properly prepared. It will warm up
considerably and by early afternoon we expect
somewhere around -12C or so.

We don’t normally like to run supplementary weather
graphics more than twice, however in the reality of
extended exposures to far colder than average temps
for a longer than average duration, repeats are necessary
to provide explanatory background for the current patterns.

-------------- Supplementary Polar Vortex Weather Data: ----------------

Is This The Last Day Of Deep Freeze Cycling For This Season?

Maybe... at least it is the last day of really deep freeze for the
near-term future as there is a pattern shift to much warmer
24 hour temp ranges indicated for at least the next 10 days.
We think there is a substantial chance that the long range
forecast shown above does indicate a seasonal shift towards
far more moderate temp’s that may reflect a basic retreat of
the Polar Vortex influence on extremes.

Conditions Notes:

Generally:

First Weekend Of Extended Open Hours To 3:45 P.M.

If you know what you’re doing with lift timing
and you hit things just right, that can mean at
least 1, maybe 2 extra runs if the lines aren’t big.

It is Sunday, so there is some probability that the
afternoon could be the really sweet spot with
the combination of very much warmer temps
together with the typical lower traffic due to
the early departure of weekend warriors that
feel the need to get back to Theirville A.S.A.P.

In this below from Soleil Sector Algonquin, if
you look at the lower right corner of the frame
you’ll be able to see the excellent sheer properties
of this snow that simultaneously permit slip, or grip,
depending on your edge-set angle. Adjusting edge
angle immediately facilitates either, without the
slightest bit of harshness in the control or feedback.
Super easy and super fun with just touch of speed
where safely possible.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Please review all applicable preceding text in this post
but the summary is fantastic mid-season coverage and
depths with more cushion and fewer hazards. Sample
pictured below.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

( If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
