Albeit on limited open terrain, if you have sharp edges there’s
great performance over very smooth slopes! (#)
(#) - See Performance Caveat contained in “Conditions Notes” below.
Weather Notes:
Do not be discouraged. It’s just “Spring” and these cycles
are totally normal within the range of historic experience.
Today is a new day, most favourably a dry and at least
forecast to be a partially sunny day, so we just wait for
it to mature as far as it goes with both sun and warming.
So-far, it’s still foggy and froze...

Ever heard of a Weather Forecast that was “incorrect”?

Conditions Notes:
Generally:
When you go from 92 to 43 Open trails in 24 hours
the weather is evidently having a profound effect.
Welcome to “Spring” and welcome to oscillating
temp cycles that go above and below Zero C, rapidly.
Fear not though, a lot of the closures are temporary
and there is going to be a recovery and assessment
mode of management that will facilitate as much
reopening as soon as is safely possible.
This is a point in the season where the overnight freezing
lows necessitate initial safety closings after the previous
days above Zero C thaws, so you can expect to see reopen’s
that may be in direct proportion to the level of degrees, and/or
the quickness it goes, above Zero C today.
Due to the limited open terrain, one option is to go into
“Training” mode. Finding the sweet spots with cautious
explorations will illuminate sectors of optimal condition
where performance can safely be enjoyed. It’s Monday,
the first weekday after the last of the regional March
Break public school holidays, so traffic should be light
and that’s going to be a huge advantage even if the space
is limited.
In The Groomed:
Back To Basics... There will be good to very fine
freshly groomed surfaces but obviously within
limited availability, at least to begin with.
Sharp, freshly/recently tuned edges will be your
best friends in terms of the mechanical relationship
you have with the immediate conditions as there
may be icy bits around and below topographical
contours.
(#) - Performance Caveat.
If you look closely at the Nord/North Beauchemin Haut/Upper
pic at the top of this page, focus on the distant frame right
side and you will see some Ski Patrol red stakes warning of
a fairly substantial icy flow patch. That is thaw and gravity
working together to generate a glacial patch of ice coming
off the bottom of the pitch of trail # 73, La Traverse. This is
one example of the type of common spring thing that we so
often write about that can happen around and just below pitches
and crests. In this case, it is well identified and closed off, but what
you need to watch out and be observant for are the not so visible
zones that may exist with a bit of loose snow-camo that may
be lurking along any given descent path. For that reason, we
recommend absolute line-of-sight VFR flight rules where if
you can’t see over a crest, slow right down until you can
confirm traction appropriate for safe descent. Please note that
these issues may be related to traffic wear patterns so watch out
for evolving challenges.
In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:
Unfortunately, not much, at least to start with.
There are too many wild cards to forecast here without
wildly guessing. If the sun comes out and the weather
breaks into any real “warm”, there could be opens, but
the longer it stays overcast and refroze cool, the lesser
the chances. At this stage we have no idea how that might
play out.
On days like yesterday, today, or any other day with weird
weather, consults with the Info. Ski Crews are critical for
the best Mountain Intel. Updates on openings/closures
and advise regarding matched skill level to open terrain
can all be found with one stop at their Summit station
between the Gondola and Lowell Thomas offload zones.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
