Dive Into A New Season, It’s Spring!

Weather Notes:
Please Note: There is currently a +3C temperature inversion
where elevations are warmer than base levels. If that continues,
we could see an accelerated rate of softening between about
11:00 AM. and onward. That might represent potential for
some safe trail re-open’s, maybe.

Conditions Notes:
Generally:
A typical spring sunny day that has had a Sub-Zero C overnight
with a rapid onset of thermal influence from both rising air temp’s
into the “+” C degrees, in addition to radiant solar energy that
may significantly augment the net effect of warmth in terms of
surface thaw.
This commonly results in a noticeable difference between
Sud/South and Nord/North rates of trail surface softness
because of the buildup of heat energy by mid-day really
gets focused on Sud/South from that point on, while the
long shadows developing over Nord/North help keep
firmer surfaces.
The rates of progression on any or all of these factors
may vary if the early morning temperature inversion
continues. Any or all of these factors could facilitate
trail reopening during the course of the day.
In All Cases Recent, Sharp Ski/Board Edges Are Essential
For Optimized Safety And Performance As There Are Icy
Bits That Naturally Occur With This Weather Profile.
In The Groomed:
Today should see an increase in the scope of more
uniform skiable loose top layers of machine processed
granular surfaces due to it being day-2 following the
big warm/rainy of 48 hours ago where the second night
of grooming after a re-freeze always helps even things
out.
The whole picture could change for the afternoon if
there are enough aggregate warmth influences to
generate top layer thaw, but at or around such low
+ value forecast temps, we’d have to say that there
is a fair probability of firmness being predominant
except for Sud/South and Soleil base levels that
will get the most focused late day heat.
In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:
There are too many wild cards here to anticipate
possible outcomes, however we think the probability
is that any re-open’s could only be in the afternoon,
if at all.
Looking at the weather forecast for the next couple
of days tells us there may be better chances of Sous
Bois coming back in the sustained warmth of tomorrow
and Thursday, but there are still huge “maybe’s” that
could affect outcomes.
We think that one positive factor for Sous Bois eventual
recovery is the re-freeze that should provide a boost
to the cool reserve in the base, but until re-opens occur
there’s not a practical way to judge the remaining quality.
Fingers crossed for hopeful future favour.

It’s just that time of season when dynamic conditions
due to wild card influence can happen. Hang it there,
it will settle out.
