77/102(*) Open Trails.
Yesterday we were right about some things,
and we were wrong about others.
For the same reasons, there may be unpredictable wild-card
elements in todays conditions as well due to the similarities
in tipping point surface effects as temps hover over Zero C.
The Summit Info. board temp excerpt is not functional for
some reason, so we would estimate the early temp at elevations
to be around -4C.

What we were wrong about, that could maybe be better today,
was the effect that Mother Nature had on re-freezing surfaces.
The cold reset was across a far greater scope than we imagined
and that generated a lot more challenge. We think that was what
was responsible for the eventual closure of 20 some-odd trails
that had originally been scheduled for open.
What we were right about was the availability of classic spring-soft
high traction shreddable performance. There was just less than we
had anticipated overall, but for sure on the well radiated Sud/South
and Soleil base level slopes it was wall-to-wall shred.
3.21.25.Sud.South.Johannsen.Solar.Shred.Performance.c.jpg
What we also got absolutely correct was the smoothness of the finished
groomed surfaces that were as flat as a billiard table, but unfortunately
in some cases, as solid as a billiard table, and it was that combination
that made for both traction and speed control issues.
We need to make it perfectly clear, the effects of tipping point weather
floating around the freezing mark is way outside of human control,
however Tremblant’s Mountain Op’s default of super-smooth makes
anything and everything else easier to handle. In other words, froze
smooth is infinitely better than froze lumpy.
In yesterdays case, even though the temps eventually made it just over
Zero C, the refroze hung on all day at most surface levels, except where
the direct solar energy made some exposed zones super soft. What was
unusual in that was how different things could be either from side-to-side
on trails that had shadow, or from top-to-bottom in elevation change.
Here is one example of this amazing difference between side-to-side.
As opposed to the pile of slushy displacement so evident in the sun,
the other side, 3 metres to the right, was as solid as a skating rink.
In many places, even spots on Nansen, the tipping points were literally
that close.

The reason we think it may be better today is that the second night-shift
after a cold reset may have hopefully evened it all out to a far larger extent
in the sense that there will be a far wider range of loose, skiable top layers.

We would like to point out that the predominant form
of precipitation is forecasted as snowfall for today...

want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
