Feels Like Spring, Looks Like Winter!

This POV is just at the lower end of the Lowell Thomas Quad
base level plateau and you can see the entrance to the Edge
Sector headed off to the left, while the lower Beauchemin
stepped pitches are waiting for you to play with some speed
as you enter on to their beautiful wide open spaces.
If this pic. was posted in January or February, you’d think
it was ideal so here in the third week of March, it’s fantastic
and very welcome!

Weather Notes:
What we see here is that while the current temp
profile is not adding to the embedded frost levels
of the Mountain, it is not taking away much, if
anything, either. Consequently it is possible that
we may have a very beneficial and extended run
of “status quo” in stable base conditions well into
early April when we’d normally be expecting thaw.
This is a fantastic outlook for conditions as well as
spontaneous late season attendance.

Please Note: None of the Info. Board data display panels are working
so we can not report the temp. excerpt at this point, however, all
the metal bits like ski racks etc., are covered in well cemented frost
and snow particulate so we estimate the Summit temps at/around -4C.

Conditions Notes:
In The Groomed:
Incremental refinement in both quality and scope
as there has been a practical absence of significant
thaw, even with temp’s floating around Zero C,
combined with repeated grooming and light coats
of new, fresh snowfall.
All of this is very well retained and quite durable as a
consequence of very light traffic over the still very cold
support from the deeply embedded frost/refrigerant in
the trail base and the mass of the Mountain.
Today, and this week are statistically huge Spring Skiing
sweet spots for front-side carvers who should be making
every effort possible to get out as soon and as often as
possible.
In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:
Highly individualistic with wide ranges of quality and
challenge that may have natural hazards along any
or every descent path.
We think the primary zone of benefit from the recent
snowfall and weather may be in the upper Nord/North
Lowell Thomas Sector where trail # 99, Archipel is open,
as has trail #97 LTE been reopened. So, while limited,
there may still be some sweet bits as the result of these
areas being favoured with the new snow.
It should be noted that there are significant possibilities
of multiple new snowfall events in the forecast this week
that could enhance conditions throughout the open terrain
in this trail group.
