The Not-So-Surprising, Surprise!
After A Major East Coast Freezing Rain Event...
Tremblant’s Mountain Op’s Pulls Off Another Magnificent Recovery!
(Technical Detail Following Below.)
If This Looks Smooth, Fast And Fun, That’s Because It Is Smooth, Fast And Fun!

On paper, other than being sunny, yesterday did not look like
it was going to be a strong ski day because of the preceding
days freezing rain, but this was just another “As Usual” masterclass
in Tremblant Mountain Op’s ability to pull off an “all things considered”
superb overnight recovery and to absolutely make the very best out of a
situation that was far from ideal.
The early change in the Open trail list from the 70’s, down to 37
would have left any armchair quarterbacks calling a disastrous
outcome, but we can tell you for a fact that even though the open
trail numbers were greatly restricted, what was open was, in terms
of wall-to-wall smoothness, quite nearly flawless.
Today should be a more refined, with double the availability, version
of yesterday that looks and skis exactly like this...

The main recovery benefits following any freezing rain event
fall within the freshly groomed category because a mechanical
intervention is the only mitigation possible.
On that account, Front-Side Carvers had every reason to be joyful
on surfaces that were rendered out to an amazing degree of very
even consistency with remarkably high levels of traction.
For sure, it was of a high level of very granular frozen particulate,
and the top layers were shallow, but with carefully applied turning
energy and sharp, well tuned edges, it was a surprisingly very forgiving
high performance technical carving day that only wanted smoothly
applied technique without sudden or jerky motions, in order to retain grip.

Unfortunately the recovery for the entire Sous Bois group rests
primarily on the warming side of the spring thermal cycles so
Sous Bois fans will need to patient until those predictable thaw
conditions allow, however, the main take-away is that the freezing
rain was not erosive so we would say that there is a significant degree
of fairly well preserved Sous Bois that is just waiting for the warmth
that will generate ripe reopen’s.
If You’re Not Keen On The Skiing, Then Go Fly A Kite...

Weather Notes:
Nice, Easy, Winter-Like Spring!
BONUS... Our favourite thing... far less wind!
In that regard, today may seem a lot more
user friendly than yesterdays “Howler”.
That might only be a drawback if you’re a
kite flier. Otherwise there’s great potential
here for a bit of a best of two worlds with
air temps that help keep winter surfaces and
solar energy that warms up the humans!

A Great Day At The Office!
When you have the privilege of “Work From Home”,
combined with “Flex Hours”, Tremblant can be a
very fine base of operations that gets you both
productivity and life-style! You know who you are!

Exactly As We Forecast...
4.2.25.Nord.North.Lowell.Thomas.Haut.Upper.Smooth.Refined.Fast.c.jpg
----------------------------------------------
Conditions Notes:
In The Groomed:
Wall-to-wall super smooth and fast with an incrementally
refined, smaller, finer top layer particle based on the repeat
groomed integration of the basic processing of the freezing
rain which very fortunately, skis no differently than snow.
The impressions of that smooth controllable speed from the
2 top action pic’s on this page are entirely accurate.

Below:
Here’s a closeup of the raw material for todays
refinements which is directly vertical over the
spot above. What we want to point out is that
even though it looks course, it skis like fine. There
is virtually no sensation of this coarseness having
any effect on descent smoothness or control.
4.1.25.Nord.North.Beauchemin.Haut.Upper.Surface.Conditions.Zoom.Detail.c.jpg
If there is one characteristic that is sometimes
noticeable following freezing rain mitigation,
it is that it can seem a bit noisy as ski tips
encounter degrees of course particulate thickness
along any descent path, but that soon fades in
perception and thanks to another night of grooming,
plus traffic, that should be substantially less today.
In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:
There will be no substitute for heat. If it was just
after a “January Thaw” we could say or expect
snowfall as a solution, however at this stage on
April 2, with the current long range weather forecast,
we quite simply have to go with the most probable
recovery factor for this entire group, which is now
“heat”. Without heat generated softness the Sous Bois
group are solidly lumpy and unfortunately like a
jagged skating rink.
On the flip-side, there’s still an amazing amount
of coverage in the upper Nord/North sectors and
the moment it becomes warm enough to soften it all,
there will be an instant, but limited time to enjoy
the classic Tremblant super soft Sous Bois with
a generous scope of terrain.
Due to variable oscillations in temps with solar softening,
there may be partial or select a la Carte Sous Bois openings
as soon as this afternoon.
Check with Summit Info. Ski Crews for run-by-run updates.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.
When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.
There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
