Classic Spring Tremblant, Something For Everyone!

Please Note: Versant Nor/North Side LTE is an example
of the type of Un-Groomed mogul run that may be
opened but may not show as open on the Official list.
In the case of this specific pic., LTE was listed as closed
however at some point in the mature heat of the day,
the Ski Patrol did take the ropes down and open this
trail. We think today may be another similar situation.
We could be wrong due to weather tipping points, but
the coverage here is very good for any early April.

Please Note: +3 C at Sud/South Base and -3 C at Summit indicates
potential for icy bits at mid-levels that should be approached with
low speed caution. Look for patterns and blueish colour changes in
trail surfaces that may indicate slick zones that can be avoided.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Super smooth, but initially, maybe even till noon,
quite solidly firm.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Super “Crispy”, and if, when, or where opened, very
firmly solid overtone until after the noon hour.

Generally:

An FAQ When Temps Are At Or Just Above Zero C...

How is it that the super smooth First Tracks or Sous Bois
terrain are so solid, for so long in the morning even when
the temps are not that cold?

The Laws Of Physics as applied through our theories herein.

a) Convection Wash.

Convection is the phenomenon of heat rises and cold sinks.
What we are interested in is the “Cold Sinks” side. During the
entire winter, cold is injected into the core mass of the Mountains
conical shape and when spring hits, that cold acts as a stored
refrigerant that effectively radiates outward. That cold emanating
from the totality of the Mountains exposed surfaces causes the
air in closest contact to effectively become, through contact
temperature transfer, a boundary layer of cold charged air flow
that because cold sinks, washes down over the entire Mountain
footprint. This process is facilitated and enhanced by the conical
shape of the Mountain so it picks up additional amplification as
it cascades downward. It is our theory that when ambient air temps
are very low single digit “+” values, say up to +4C or so, this cold
convection wash can keep surfaces well chilled until mid-day solar
or much warmer air can overwhelm the effect. It is particularly evident
when there is low or no wind which coincidentally most frequently
occurs in the calm of dark overnight stillness when there are no solar
generated air thermals to stir things up.

b) Temperature tipping points.

The laws of physics make the behaviour of water
a very binary thing within a 1 degree C range
when the ambient is at Zero C. Minus 1 C can mean
very firm, even icy, especially if there’s been any heat
generated saturation/thaw in recent daily cycles. Of course
the farther you get either down or up, the less relevance
1 degree C means, but at “Spring” that super-sensitivity
to +/- 1 degree around Zero C can happen almost every day.

c) All of the above, at once.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
