Weather Notes:

There is once again a considerable difference in forecast
sources this morning where the indications of overcast
onset vary from approximately 10:00A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Obviously for the enjoyment of a beautiful sunny day,
most folks will prefer the latter, however from a mechanical
standpoint, with temps getting up to well above Zero C,
we’d actually be just as happy with overcast because the
ski conditions would have an umbrella to keep off intense
solar thaw energy that might accelerate terrain loss.

We might also suspect that if the sunny part becomes
dominant, the net effect could cause the day-time
high temp to exceed current forecast values.

Yikes!!! The final countdown is on... The long range forecast
now includes the last official day of the season...

Versant Sud/South Side Trail # 12, Erik Guay,
A Minor 2 Pic.file Case Study.

Erik Guay falls into a category of trails that can
be referred to as periodically/occasionally groomed.
It actually shows as groomed this morning, but the
last time it was groomed before now was April 4,
and before that was March 27. As you can see below,
over the span of days between, it can evolve to quite a
pronounced mogul zone. This is one example of terrain
management we might refer to as “Crop Rotation” where
the periodic reset allows for manageable challenge within
the overall range of it’s "Black Diamond" trail rating.

Below is a file shot from the second last grooming on
March 27, 2025 so you can see the reset contrast.
This POV is taken from farther up, and shows the
entire length of the frontal pitch.

Conditions Notes:

Generally:

A firm morning, and with forecasts that show up
to +10C, a soft afternoon. It’s another classic “As Usual”
spring skiing day at Tremblant, however(a)....

It should be noted that the overall quality and scope of
coverage reflects a so-far seasons total of 592cm’s
compared to the 30 year average seasons total of 439cm’s.

Due to seasonal wind shaping patterns this abundance
of natural snow raw material is more evident on Versant
Nord/North Side slopes however(b)... the fact that we still
have Versant Soleil open terrain on April 12 is also
indicative of the overall benefit of a far greater than
average snowfall season.

In The Groomed:

All day smoothness and firmness may be directly proportional
to net overall thaw influences, traffic volume and pitch angle,
so within the almost infinitely variable combinations possible,
there could be all manor of challenge developing, ultimately
with quick evolution if the afternoon heat really peaks.

For Beginners, thank goodness for Nansen and P’tit Bonheur,
where typically, the most uniformly durable conditions live.

For Experts and aspiring Intermediates, steeper terrain may
build moguls rapidly after lunch so watch out for evolving
patterns and make sure you approach crests and steeper
pitches with cautious slow speeds.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Totally a' la Carte...

Watch out for, and seriously respect Ski Patrol hand
posted warnings/cautions.

There are zones of select excellence, especially on
Versant Nord/North Side open terrain just because
of it being such a hugely above average snow year,
but that does not mean there are zero hazards, they
are just way better covered than most April 12 historic
metrics.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
