Our mountain is literally getting better by the hour!

Revised Official Grooming and Trail report attached to reply below.

The Snow in the trees at the Summit as illustrated here,
is always a good indication of how things are going to be.
When Mother Nature puts the Snow back in the trees after
a rain event, you know things are returning to normal.

The quality of the carving surfaces is clearly evident in this
North Side Snap Shot of Expo, so there's only one thing to do...
put yourself in this picture!

Temps were projected to go as low as -10C last night, but they
did not actually go much below -5, so it will be a very easy winter
day to dress for and with some Sun in the forecast, it's going to
be a Great day at Tremblant!

For Geo/Weather Freaks...

Interested in why Tremblant has unique micro-climates?

For years we have written about the "Blowing and Drifting Factor”
and we will certainly see continuing evidence of that today, as we
did yesterday. The super snowfall we got made for a lot of deep
powder accumulations in spots, particularly on the North Side.

Right from the beginning of Tremblant as a Ski resort in 1938,
the founder, Joe Ryan knew that the North side got more snow
and that it tended to lay better on the land. Yesterday was a
classic example of that phenomenon. The best North side
accumulations occur when there is rapid snowfall with moderate
South-West winds, exactly as we had yesterday.

What happens is a unique orographic precipitation dynamic where
the warm moist air rises up the Mountain as it comes along the
earths surface from the Soleil/Taschereau side and encounters
cooler air at the Summit and as they mix, the moisture condenses
in the form of Snow. As the moderate wind moves across the top
of the Mountain, it basically creates a "Swirl", in this case a horizontal
vortex that carries the Snow over the top, where gravity dumps it
primarily on the North Side surfaces. That is certainly not to say that
the South side does not get its fair share, obviously it does, but the
momentum of the South-West wind carrying snow over the top is
what causes the favourable conditions on the North.

The key factor in this model is the wind value which has to remain
moderate, too much wind and it all blows into the surrounding bush,
but when the wind is right, it lays the snow on our trails where it stays.

We have often written about how this can build particularly deep
deposits along the trail edges where additional swirling wind
causes the snow to fill in just along the "lee" (lee ...noun,
Definition: Shelter from wind or weather given by a neighboring
object, esp. nearby geographic features, land, trees, buildings
etc. ie: we pitch our tents in the lee of a rock. Also lee side: the
sheltered side; the side away from the wind.) of the trail sides,
but it is always neat to review it again as it means we've got
Great Skiing/Snowboarding to look forward to!

As the above grooming report shows, our recovery is not yet
complete as we are still down around 35% from a week ago in
terms of total open terrain, so please Mother Nature, more
snow would be nice. There is Snow in the forecast over the
next week and the temps are expected to remain well below
seasonal winter averages, so we can fully expect to see additional
terrain restored to the "Open" category as soon as the Mountain
Crews determine that it can be done.

Another interesting note about the Grooming report above is
that virtually everything that is open is groomed with the
exceptions of Banzai, MCA and lower Saute-Moutons, under
the Duncan Quad chair. We totally approve of those exceptions
as they have very good powder deposits as a result of their
narrow dimensions where the tree tops act as "Scoops” to
retain blowing and drifting snow.

Caveat: For best results, properly tuned Skis and Snowboards
with Fresh, Sharp edges will maximize your enjoyment and
enhance your ability to handle potentially variable surfaces
that could have icy qualities underneath. Please put safety
first and watch your speed until you can verify breaking and
stopping performance. Watch for traffic at trail intersections
and obey the Mountain code at all times.
