----------------- T360 Late Night Apres Ski Edit, Under Construct @ 10:23 P.M. ------------------

A “Fly Under The Radar” Surprise Du Jour...

One Of The Top 3 Front Side, High Performance Carving Days Of The So-Far Season.

Unfortunately there were some mechanical glitches
with the Soleil and Expo Quads that closed Soleil,
but got fixed on Expo, so setting those aside,
the high performance traction action was wonderful.

Aggressive edge-sets were rewarded with solid,
reliable hook-ups that in our experience, with
recently tuned edges, was really close to flawless
over the course of our travels. Simply superb carving.

The Sous Bois group continues very fine for this date,
however there are rocky bits lurking under some of
the high traffic bump zones and we saw sparks flying
on Marie-Claude Asselin Bas/Lower for one example.
We think there is enough snow to do a grooming/levelling
reset in this example, which history shows gets periodically
done. Maybe that will happen, maybe not but in mean-time,
you really need to be vigilant on the speeds in the well
travelled Sous Bois if you want to avoid Precambrian contact.

If you accept the risks, on the flip-side, some of the
lesser travelled Sous Bois are extraordinary for this date.

There are places where if you step off your skis,
the snow is up above your waist and impossible
to walk through because you’re quite nearly
floating in snow.

Everything could change for tomorrow with the rainy
forecast but we say wait and see. We still think there
are good chances it won’t be so bad at elevations
where today, we had a -7C spread Summit-To-Base
and the Summit never saw higher than -3C to last run.

If that happened again, the fears might be unfounded.

It could still be wet, just maybe not damaging and
clinically, just a spring skiing day in December.

Bring Poncho...

Versant Soleil On Progressive OPEN!

Otherwise... Another day of mild temps and great surface quality!

even if can be a bit foggy...

Weather Notes:

An extremely dynamic weather cycle where this next
30 hours represents the first significant thermal event
since Opening on November 27.

Basically, what we could get after open hours, late
overnight, is the first potential thaw/rain cycle in
22 days of consecutive, uninterrupted sub-zero C
string of days, in a time period of technical late fall
where we would normally expect to see between
3 to 5 such cycles.

That means we’ve been really lucky and very fortunate
to have had such a favourable establishment of the
new season, and furthermore(a), that this little warm/wet
burp is totally normal despite the immediate inconvenience.

Furthermore(b), it could even be argued that the Mountain
needs and/or can benefit from this common early season
kind of cycle as it facilitates a consolidation of the top
layers of the groomed trail network that becomes “Eastern
Boilerplate” and as such a very durable trail base foundation
under all the genuine winter snowfall yet to come. What we
have observed over decades is that it is the solid density of
the earliest base strata that ultimately can act as sort of a
permafrost barrier to resist thaw and wear during the common
spring season heat cycles.

------ Versant Sud/South Side Resort Base Johannsen Conditions Observations: ---------

What a relief...

After weeks of Special Event hosting that restricted
normal public access, we finally have the ultimate and
very much appreciated, wide open Sud/South ski-out.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

For todays open hours, no problem and great,
hopefully a total repeat of yesterdays technically
wonderful surface conditions that were fast, grippy
and fun.

Of course the challenge of the vision issues with
cloud fog seem to be hanging in there, but with
any luck they will be restricted to Summit levels
only and maybe even not-so-much if the forecast
clearing is better or sooner than indicated in the
hourly projections.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Challenging thickness with highly variable depths
generated by traffic and wind shaping. There are
hazards that warrant conservative slow speeds
but for Experts with the skills and abilities, still
fantastic early season.
