The Big Picture At Tremblant...

If you can, enjoy it today, ‘cause tomorrow it gunna look a lot different.

It was not sunny all day yesterday, but obviously there
was some quite nicely sunny and when Tremblant is
both snow white and sunny, the combination is magical.

The More Or Less Of Sweet Spots.

We are coming into the first significant thaw event of the season
and as a consequence, and depending on about a zillion wild cards,
there may be unusual challenge on a rapidly evolving basis throughout
the entire open array for the next few days.

In this type of weather we recommend a very flexible mind-set that
sees you quickly adapt to explore for and remain open to, finding
sweet spots that work for your skills and abilities, and remaining
within those safe comfort zones for extended time periods.

It’s way too early to predict the more or less of sweet spots,
but finding them and appreciating the fun that can always
be found is certain. There are always sweet spots, no matter
the weather but with the extended preceding weeks and weeks
of super cool embedded in the trail network, there are competing
thermal forces that can result in icy bits as well icy steep bits and
either of those can toss you around if you hit them with too much
speed or dull edges.

The likelihood is that as temps rise, there will more sweet spots
than less, just because some thermal softening renders spring-like
conditions on the way up, so to begin with, expect loads of high
traction descent lines with very reliable grip.

It is also possible that our “80/20” principle may be invoked
where 80 percent of the time conditions up over trail elevations
are way better than ground levels where most of the active
weather can occur under a low cloud ceiling and/or maybe the
weather forecast might be wrong?

In any event, be prepared for slow deliberate explorations over the
next few days. Patience and caution will safely reveal your best sweet
spots, just make sure your edge tools are freshly sharp, ready for the job.
Start with low slope angel challenge in order to warm up while confirming
your genuine abilities to retain complete control at all times.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Generally quite fine with a bias towards excellence on
Versant Nord/North Side slopes and on Sud/South,
more challenges in occasional base exposures that
were subject to past wind blasting that in places,
played the base bare and more difficult to keep
loose top layers in place.

Recent well tuned edges are you best friends.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Infinite variety with all manner of challenge, adventure,
fun, risks and natural hazards. It’s early January bush skiing...

Today may be thick in places with higher temps and
humidity so careful explorations with slow speeds
are totally appropriate.

Genuine Experts Only Please.

If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
