Cryogenic Momentum.

What that means for now, as well as the balance of the season.

The long term, overall benefit:

The mass of the conical volume of the Mountain
has a variable core temperature that is influenced
up or down by the ambient external temperatures
so when it is exposed to extended time periods of
deep cold weather, the “frost” or sub-Zero C temps
are radiated further inward, i.e., to a greater penetrated
depth below the surface, where in essence, it becomes
a stored source of refrigerant. It is this vast reserve
of stored cold that takes weeks and weeks to disperse
in the Spring and it acts as a counter-measure from
underneath to help preserve the Alpine trail network
in the advancing heat of the evolving seasons. We call
that essential, supportive, time-released cold radiation
phenomenon "Cryogenic Momentum”.

The immediate benefit:

Super-cool, super-dry cryogenic snow has it’s own unique
performance characteristics that are separate and distinct
from warmer snow that has higher internal humidity. It’s not
so much that it’s better or worse, just different, but each in
their own good way.

What we have today is the retained KKKkkool in the snow,
thanks to “convection”, where cold sinks and heat rises,
but we also have far more pleasant and easy atmospheric
conditions to work outside in.

The “Cryogenic Momentum” within the top layers should
remain as a daily performance benefit for many upcoming
days(#) so we’ll have the the best of both worlds as what we’d
call a very sweet spot in the annual cycle of the evolving
season that is specifically prior to any significant thaw influence.

This happens to variable degrees every season and it is a
primary element of our recommendation for February as
a prime Ski Holiday window for all lovers of authentic,
undiluted winter.

(#) If there is one factor that may affect our direct connection
with the cryogenic base, it’s the sudden snowfall accumulation
at warmer temps in the forecast. In that case, the cold strata
simply becomes a refrigerant retention membrane under the
newest layers, further locking in the benefits we’ll see in the
durability of coverages in the spring.

---------- 2.10.26 Insert Case Study - Sud/South McCulloch: -------------

Yesterday we wrote technical notes about “select” conditions
as a consequence of wind facing force generating some slick/icy
bits(Soleil Tiguidou was the sample). Here is only one example of
the opposite, Lee-side favour that did not have the wind-blast
and the steep pitch conditions are, in the words of a local Expert,
“Surprisingly Good!”.

Here are 2 Guy’s, literally 2 skiers named “Guy” who
graciously allowed for performance pic’s on McCulloch
to demonstrate the very fine grip/traction here.

Merci Guy’s !!!

The amount of soft, edging generated snow-shred off
the skis pictured here tells you exactly what you need
to know about grip and turning traction. The fun part
is how reliable and predictable it is when it spans the
length of an entire pitch with this level of super smooth,
groomed refinement.

----------- International Ski Patrol Day: ------------------

The importance of the diligent work done by the Ski Patrol
can never be overstated. From terrain safety inspections to
accident mitigations and all manner of other Mountain
operations support administrations, we simply could not
have as high a quality of experience without them. period.

Weather Notes:

O.K., so it’s not sunny, but the combination of much
warmer and snowing is a great substitute!

The Cold Snap Is Gone...

Well, it felt like more of an Arctic immersion month,
not just a cold snap, but whatever, the intensity of
one of the deepest cool winter periods we’ve had
is finally in the rear-view mirror and we look forward
to far easier and more seasonably normal daily temp
ranges for the foreseeable future... Thank goodness...

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Super easy fantastic with seasonally high levels
of integrated grooming connectivity between
skill levels that facilitates rapid learning progress
as well as Up/Down enjoyment for either aggressive
steepness challenge or gentle, relaxed cruising.

These are some of the highest quality, most versatile
groomed conditions you can experience, ever.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Generally very fine, however this group is far
more sensitive to wear pathways and because
it is dependant on natural snowfall only, it
is subject to “fingerprint” conditions that
include unique “Experts Only” challenges.

The new forecast snowfall, if it comes at the
predicted depths, will be a huge refresher asset,
so fingers crossed for favourable updates on that.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the "Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
