Weather Notes:

Warm Starts Today...

A combined view of the 10 day long range and the
supplementary data pertaining to the March temperature
progression and what we see here is a rather abrupt
switch-flip into the “Lamb-Like” side of early March
that we think is the real signal of a period of early
Spring skiing. Whether or not the “Out Like A Lion”
side actually happens can not be accurately predicted,
but certainly from the aspect of historic probabilities,
the odds are that we would expect an oscillation back
to cooler and snowier down the road somewhere.
We have never seen a winter that does not have a few
ups/downs, or a winter that does not have a good ‘ole
snow storm in early April, so fear not, we’ve got great
prospects for lots of favourable conditions in the next
and(yikes!), last 6 weeks of the season.

It should also be noted that the 10 day long range is
for Sud/South Resort base levels and that at the daily
high temps indicated, up on/over the Alpine trail network,
we have seen the common elevation differentials of (+/-)
-4C cooler temps routinely and if that continued to be
reliable, as we frequently see in Spring around here, a lot
of what might be forecast as rainy could be snowy over
the Mountain itself.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

Very fine to excellent in the freshly groomed with
Quebec School Holiday traffic, so there could be
substantial indications of wear by the end of the
day. One positive in that regard is the solidity
of the base foundation, so we think that smoothness
will be there as a basic all-day quality.

The Green’s and Blue’s should be extraordinarily fun
for front side carving styles. On a day like today, for
only one of dozens of possibilities, Versant Soleil,
Algonquin, with a wee touch of speed, when safe
with no traffic and in full-on SL technique, will turn
a well conditioned Expert carvers quad muscles
into jello with 2 runs. Additionally, because Algonquin
is as wide as an Interstate Hwy., it is a prime example
of a run that typically has zero icy in the centre, so you
can really lean into those centrifugal forces... it’s addictively fun.
Secondarily related to safe fun... Full-tilt SL mode is not
fast in a linear descent sense because you are going twice
as far arching back and forth across the fall line, so its actually
way safer than GS or Downhill modes, not to mention the
superlative quad workout value of SL.

If, if, if(maybe)... there are any anomalies, they may be
at/over/around crests leading to, or on steeper Black
Diamond Expert slopes, so make sure you’ve got your
razor edges for optimized safety and control. In the past
there have been some very firm and occasionally icy bits
in steep trail centres and from that standpoint it would be
common for Experts to find the softest loose snow on the
outboard trail sides. If you’re an Expert and you’re only
going to make one run on a steep slope, pick a side to
enter and make the first few turns with a cautious tight
radius before you play with gravity.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

In the absence of any recent big snow, and just before
Spring heat softens things, this group continues to
be the most sensitive and what that really means is
that the bumps have a very solid basic characteristic
that makes them somewhat unforgiving as there is
not as much shock absorbing softness to bank into.

There will be select sweet spots to find with careful
exploration, however to get back to universal fun we
would want to see either snow or heat to increase
buffered surface softness. At this stage it looks like
that future softness in the bush is going to come
from heat. If that is the case, you’ll want to plan
your Tremblant Sous Bois adventures for sooner
rather than later as we all know heat in the Sous
Bois may generate super-soft, but it also means
eventual terrain reductions.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the “Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
