There may be some “Spring” in the surfaces, but...

The Views Are Tremblant Spectacular!

It’s Functional Spring...

You Need To Be Ready For That.

When you’ve had weeks and weeks of nearly ideal
uninterrupted winter with very high quality, nearly
ice free conditions, the annual spring shift that comes
with its thermal influences on both atmospheric
and surface levels can seem like a rather sudden
wakeup call for the need to be prepared for the
different challenges that may be encountered in
the surfaces from spring heat. That’s “now”.

Weather Notes:

The next few days pretty much defines a “Shake-Up” from
the consistency of the long running winter stability we’ve
had up to now.

Welcome to “Spring”.

Good to see a forecasted return to a better skiers
outlook for next Wed.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

The vast majority of freshly groomed should be
very fine, however that initial state of being may
be influenced by combinations of traffic and
thermal effects that can result in either wear
or firm/icy base exposures that you need to
anticipate for by being cautious in exploration
and pattern observation, throughout the course
of the day.

Basically, we’re moving from the more or less
carefree days of the universal winter conditions
that are very forgiving, to the daily select conditions
of spring when careful attention is required to avoid
localized dynamic hazards that are not forgiving
with either speed or dull edges.

Given the long range weather forecast, the likely
scenario is that it will be heat that makes for a
more uniform surface softness consistency,
although even there, that could be biased towards
afternoon hours if the overnight Sub-Zero C’s up
and over elevations is deep enough to re-solidify
surfaces after grooming.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

In the absence of recent big snow, especially after
a bit of a thaw/re-froze, there can be a lumpy with
solid landings basic environment. There can still be
select areas of less heat affected, but the softness
that could be found 48 hours ago is now congealed
by cool and not nearly as forgiving.

Additionally there are some zones of mixed Ski/Board
use where due to the different turning forces between
the 2, combined with tight descent lines, the bump
patterns are irregular and do not have an easy rhythm,
so very cautious speed is required to avoid what can be
a sudden balance upset.

This trail group is likely going to be very sensitive
until the really consistent spring heat comes in to
make everything soft, but for spring bump fans,
the planning window for heat softened with full
coverage may be relatively brief. If, if, if, we were
fortunate enough to get some big snow in mid/later
March, that could change the whole picture, so...

The obvious remedy would be a couple of big
March snowstorms, but at this stage that’s a
concept waiting to statistically happen.

Another remedy that exists for a sub-set of Un-Groomed
trails is possible, but we’ll be doing some homework on
that and hope to report on potentials Apres Ski.

---------- Conditions Caveat: --------------

Please Note: There are 11 Progressive/time delayed trail openings
pending Ski Patrol confirmations on the Official list and there are
also some Mother Nature generated icy bits and substrate flow
zones that can/may occur. Well tuned gear is essential for safe
control and fun.

It’s functional Spring and until and unless there’s enough new
snow to cover, or enough heat to generate universally soft snow,
Skiers/Boarders need to be ready for all the variables associated
with dynamic temperature and thermal surface swings above and
below Zero C.

It should also be noted that daily Spring-style conditions can be
anticipated to be of a “Revolving” nature as the sun passes
over the 2 primary sides of the conical shape of the Mountain.
Therefore, you may find exploring from side to side periodically
will more easily reveal where/how either the sweet spots or
challenges are evolving.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the “Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
