It was foggy on the top and it turned out to be all snowcloud.

It snowed vigorously in squall-like passing bands over
the Mountain.

The temps at the Summit made it up to -1C, maybe
even Zero C for a few minutes, but the very most
important part was that the winds aloft, way up over
the Mountain must have been a lot cooler, enough
cooler to make big fat snowflakes that thickly fell
off and on, mostly on, for most of the afternoon.

With The Major Drop In The Temps
Tomorrow, You’re Going To Need
To Consult With Info.Ski Crews For
Updates That Could Be Changing
By The Minute.

It was sleety-drizzle at some base levels today, but we
never saw a single drop of rain anywhere where we were
up on the trail network elevations. Some base levels got
up to +4 C, but convection, i.e., cold air sinks, seemed
to keep trails quite cool all day.

The Reason For This Apres Ski...

Tomorrow is going to be a lot different, like temps dropping
like a rock, down to -14C... Wow....

The new snow has very high internal humidity so there are
very high probabilities we could see some very solid base
characteristics as the laws of physics apply.

One strategy that Mountain Crews may use with a weather
profile like this is to do as much of the grooming as possible
in the 4 to 5 hours preceding Open Hours in order to have
the maximum, optimized, square area available right from
the start, but...

You’ll Need To Be Ready For Anything.

93(*) Open Trails At #Tremblant .

Came To Tremblant Because it's 90F in Colorado,
so followed the snow East.

With Open Terrain Stat’s of Aspen at 45% and Vail at 29%
Tremblant’s 90% Open is fantastic and a sign of a real
authentic winter, still very much alive and well, and with
even more natural snowfall potential, far from over.

Another advantage of Tremblant at this stage of the
season is the no-lines and uncrowded slopes of the
post-spring break time periods, while we still typically
have full winter coverages.

The vast majority of the groomed perform
exactly like this below. While there can be
the odd icy bit on some steeper pitches,
the overall reliability of high traction, mid
winter performance action is amazing fun!

Conditions Notes:

Generally:

Huge statistical data point achieved today with
the season-to-date natural snowfall total hitting
501cm’s. The 30 year seasonal running TOTAL
average is 445cm’s and we have almost a month
to go, so we are now considerably above average.

In The Groomed:

The excellence is in the Green’s and Blue’s of
lesser pitch angles where the consistency of
retained soft top layers is quite close to
flawlessly universal.

There is select excellence in the Black’s but the
steeper pitches do have the tendency to evolve
slick or icy bit firmly solid base exposures as
traffic wear displaces loose top layers aside.
In addition to the sharp edges you need, it
is essential to be mindful of evolving patterns
and use cautious approach speeds going over
any crests onto steep descents.

It should be noted that the lead photo above is
of the recently re-set groomed Nord/North Trail
# 65, Banzai, which continues to exhibit technical
excellence in the Black Diamond category even
though it is shown as an un-groomed mogul run.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

Roughly 1,347,891 wild cards of individual and unique
challenge, fun and adventure, but in the “challenge”
department there are contrasting soft/icy bits from
left over from early March heat cycles.

The new snow will help some, but the real potential
for the Sous Bois group is in the eventual onset of
real spring warmth that will soften everything.
We’re not quite there yet so while there’s lots open
it requires Expert level skills and cautious navigation
until the warmth and softness exponentially increase
forgiveness.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the “Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
