91/102(*) Open Trails At #Tremblant .

Some Conflicting Winter Into Spring Signals.

But coming off of an end of March, 100% “Fully Open” weekend,
the value of this complete late season coverage and depth can not be overstated.

--------- T360 Proof Of Snow: -------------

This is actually V2 of our last Proof Of Snow, but nothing
has changed since then so it is totally applicable to today,
especially the way the upper ski has displaced the snow
and that is why we have chosen this POV.

What you see is the shear characteristics of the snow as the
ski tip passed through the depths and those 3 visible strata
occurred like that due to humidity and warmth that we think
are going to end up exactly the same today.

This was, and we think will be again by mid-aft., “Ballistic Grade
Snowball Snow”. Those shear lines do not occur in powder, only when
there’s sufficient internal moisture to cause what technically might
be call “clumping”.

At +10 C this aft, we should see all of this again.

Please Note: The vertical ski pole could have been
pushed deeper to end up out of sight but we left it with
the top of the handle parallel to the surface for visual
recognition. On that basis we would estimate the current
snowpack in the Open Sous Bois between Le Tunnel and
Banzai Bas/Lower to be variably between 1.5 to 2 metres
depending on topographical contours and wind-shaped
snowfall deposits.

It is not like this depth everywhere, but to have it anywhere
at the end of March is a fantastic reflection on the overall status
of durable quality we can look forward to for the remainder
of the season.

------------- Environment Canada Special Weather Statement: -----------

It is our policy to publish all Official weather alerts
as soon as they are posted, however in this case
it’s way far in advance, not during Open hours
and so-far, applies mostly as a transit/travel notice.

Conditions Notes:

In The Groomed:

After yesterdays all-winter, all day, there should be initially
very fine to excellent where freshly groomed that will migrate
from very winter-like, to very spring-like as the day progresses
to the forecasted +10 C, after the lunch hour.

With this hourly profile it is likely that whatever warmth effects
there are, should be quite shallow due to the convective retention
of the chill in the hill that less than 12 hours ago was still being
subjected to a late winter “Cold Snap”. That reboot into the trail
base is not going anywhere quickly.

As the thermal effects do get applied to the top surface layers
we project significant potential for the feel underfoot to become
noticeably more spring-like in terms of softer traction action,
however the extent of effects in either square area or depth of
thaw are as yet unpredictable so you’ll want to pay close attention
to evolving patterns and where you find the fun, don’t be shy about
doing repeats in your own sweet spots.

There could be signs of substrate thaw/flow icy zones as there
have been off/on over past weeks, but they are typically visible as
distinctly coloured patches you can see from above, so if they
occur, easy to go around.

For Experts, don’t be blasting over crests without checking speed
first, some of the slick or flow icy zones are lurking around crests
or just below on the steeper pitches.

In The Sous Bois/Hors Piste/Glades and Un-Groomed:

There is whole different kettle of fish because without
any human intervention like the groomed, you’ve got
infinite wild cards, especially where there are overlapping
traffic patterns generated by skis and boards that may
be converging within popular descent lines.

Definitely Experts Only Please. There is a tendency for
the extensive Hors Piste coverage to be quite thick, which
is actually a fantastically happy problem for the end of March
as it indicates both the fun and the durable quality to look
forward to when full spring heat finally arrives.

:) Bring Back The Memories... Research Future Visits...
If you would like to look up dates you visited Tremblant, or you
want to research days/weeks/months to visit, you can sample what
they look like historically, month by month, year by year.

When reviewing dates from any of the past, numbered, archived pages,
you can use the “Previous Topic" or "Next Topic" buttons, located
screen far right, in upper date/message bar to scroll through sequential
dates, or use your browsers "back" button to stay on the selected index
page for non-sequential date reviews in either forward or reverse order.

There are approximately 6, 25 day Index pages per season.

 If you “Bookmark" the link above, it will always take you to the
First index page with the latest posts. That gives you an immediate,
current to 25 day past, review scroll of Winter Alpine Conditions by
consecutive date.
