95 open Trails again, with a twist...

Conditions are an excellent extension of the last
several days. All skill levels from beginner to all
mountain experts will find an abundance of great
terrain. We don't think you can make a bad decision
today!

Yesterday was the Official opening day of Algonquin
over on Versant Soleil, and we made a bit of a splash
about getting on the new run and reporting Apres-Ski,
however, after getting all the way over there, we
found that the entrance was roped off, the run closed
and a representative of the Patrol was keeping people
from going onto it.

Turns out the run had indeed been open for a brief period
but the solar energy had melted off a critical portion of the
coverage at the bottom of the run in its final run-out, leaving
some dangerous rock exposed.

The patroller explained that in the course of the run
construction, blasting had been used and what was exposed
contained sharp edges of blasted rock. O.K., I would be happy
to preserve my ski bases from rock-ripping base destruction
for sure, so I'm glad they were being pro-active on that,
even though it was disappointing to not be able to sample it.

L'Algonquin is back on the "Open" list this A.M., but with a
"Progressive" attachment, meaning open when the patrol
deems it suitable. This may also indicate that someone up
above has directed the Mountain Crews to move snow
inventory from other reserves to cover the hazardous
zone in order that the run be re-opened.

We will advise you of its status when we get there again.

With that episode over, we decided to move on and ended up
over at the North side Park where we got a few neat Snap Shots
for all those folks that like to see a little air!

We thought this angle, which kind of makes it look like
they're jumping off a cliff, is pretty neat with the distant
North Side Scenery in the background.
