3/24/10 Conditions

51 Open Trails as we begin the recovery process.

From just below freezing at base level, to -7C at the summit,
our surfaces are going to be very "Firm" this morning!

In the due course of time this morning, the sun and wind
(20-25 KM Westerly forecast), will soften things up and we
will get back to "Spring" with a projected day-time high temp
of +7C under mostly sunny skies.

The very good news is of course, that we did not get rain!
While much of the surrounding region had rain, freezing rain,
sleet and all kinds of other weird weather, all we got was
high speed snow! We say "High Speed Snow" because the wind
that brought it was high speed and that means that it does not
deposit on the Mountain surfaces in the same way that it would
lay if it was coming down with no or low winds.

There will not be much accumulation on the open runs, however,
when the wind encounters the trail edges or passes over some of
narrower runs, it may leave snow in those places, we'll just
have to see where it ended up.

There was not much, the Official http://www.tremblant.ca Snow Report
shows zero overnight accumulation, so once again, all we can say
is that at least it didn't rain!

Mountain Crews will be doing the best they can now to extend
the durability and quality of our surfaces.

Without additional snow, the open trail count may not rise much.
Perhaps, if some runs are kept off-line to save them, you may
see the trail count go up a bit for the weekends.

If we get any significant snow from this weather system that is
affecting us for the next several days, then the trail count could rise.

The biggest asset we have in the weather picture right now is
the sub-zero cold overnights and the forecasted lower, sub-zero
days ahead. It will make conditions very firm, but it will also
prevent melting, so we'll take that any day, as long as it helps
keep the season alive.
