Last Run, Apres Ski...

Mother Nature gave us tremendous challenges this season and we
do not think anyone could have done a better job of making the most
out of what there was to work with than the dedicated professionals
of the Mont Tremblant Mountain Crews.

Day after day, week after week, the talented members of the
Mountain Crews delivered absolutely superb Alpine surfaces for us
to Ski and Snowboard on. They did it all with much less than
average natural snow plus what ever they were allowed to make,
with outstanding results.

This was a unique, superb and wonderful season no matter
what any negative-vibe individuals may have to say about it,
just because there may have been less snow than average.

Every morning we wake up and have the choice to see the world
as a glass half full or a glass half empty. We will always choose
the fully positive view because life is so much richer with a genuine
appreciation for where the goodness can be found, and this season,
we found it every day on the beautiful slopes of Tremblant.

Of course, there will be the 20/20 hindsight critics from the
"glass half empty" group, but why let them spoil the fun?
It's a lot easier to go to sleep at night and wake up in the
morning with a smile, instead of a frown. Waking up with a
smile was easy this season when you knew that the day ahead
was going to be filled with excellent Alpine surfaces to ski
or board on.

As the pages of this Tremblant diary go into history, their
purpose changes from informing to reminding, so as we
look back through them, we hope you'll smile too.

It's 5:00 A.M. on the last day of the season....

Do you know where your skis are?

If they're not pointed towards Tremblant, it's up
to you to turn them in the right direction and get
them to the Mountain!

If you listen carefully, you may be able to hear
your Snowboard calling to you...

"Take me to Tremblant!"

No it's not a dream....
quick, save those lost skis...
tell your board you're on the way...

Just get to Tremblant any way you can, because if you don't...

it's going to be a really, really long time before you can go again...

Todays conditions should be pretty much the same
as yesterday, particularly when you look at this Summit
web cam snap shot. The important thing to note here is
that the snow that fell on Friday night held at the
Summit level.

There were sprinkle-like rain showers around the
South Side base last night, so our concern was what
that was going to be like at the top, but this Pic this
morning clearly shows snow on the roof of Grand Manitou.
Had there been any significant rain at the summit,
this snow would have been washed off.

Yesterday, we thought that the North Side would hold
the "Hidden Gems" and that was borne out in the realities
of the day. Today will be the same.

Rope Tow/Lowell Thomas has "winter" snow. Even by late
afternoon, the dry quality of the surfaces down to the level
of the entry to Rigodon remained consistent.

There were combinations of soft and firm zones all over the
North by the end of the day, but it was also brilliantly sunny
and +11C, so that was to be expected. Traction was very good,
you just had to be careful with edge set so that you didn't
flip out if you encountered an unexpected slick portion.

Mean-while, back on the South, Beauvallon/Alpine was
configured in a back and forth manner in order to take
advantage of the best groom-able snow depth, so it was a
bit of a zig-zag between the two.

The knarliest part of the South descent was the main pitch
just above the lower intersection of Beauvallon/Alpine.
This is the steepest portion of Beauvallon and it was beginning
to show through, unfortunately, with the odd rock lurking
around. People were cresting the pitch without the appropriate
reduction in speed, in some cases, and then found themselves
in a hazard zone that they could not stop for.

This was a good example of how things can change fairly quickly
in spring conditions as it was much better covered in the morning.
This is also a good example of why you should not assume everything
around the next corner is going to be the same as either what it was
where you just came from, and/or what it was like the last time you
were here.

Look Before You Leap.

As usual, P'tit Bonheur comes in at the very top of the
list for best cruising and carving quality. Regardless of
skill level, this smooth run will bring a smile to all that
take its beautiful route.
