12/1/10 Conditions

Scroll down to reply for "Not Quite Apres Ski Report".

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Late morning update: Sorry to report that due to sustained winds of 60kmph
Mountain has been Officially closed for the day. Regrettable as it is, this is a
safety issue and there is no other choice.

Please note: content in body of post below relevant to tomorrows recovery
is still applicable for those planning to be at Tremblant. Hope to see you
on the slopes then!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mid-Morning update: Mountain opening delayed due to weather conditions.
Typically, this would be a wind event that would make the "Docking"
procedure for lifts unsafe due to a potential mechanism jam if the
lift is swinging too far. Sorry to have to relay that to you, however,
wind gusts associated with the weather system passing through have
been very high, so with safety in mind, that's the way it goes some days.

"The Glass Is Half Full Conditions Report"

Being born eternally optimistic has it's challenges...

Unfortunately, we've gotten quite a bit of rain and our "Dream"
scenario from yesterdays report evidently did not come to pass.

But !!! ... It's not as bad as you might think,
sitting in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, or even St. Jovite ...
and here's why !!!
Look at this! There's still SNOW on the roof of Grand Manitou!!!
If this rain event was really bad, the snow would have been completely
washed off, but there's still some there, proof that our summit has not
taken the big hit many would assume it has!

Additionally, we are predicting that Summit temps will go sub-zero sometime
around 8 or 9 P.M. tonight. Base level temps should be sub-zero shortly
after mid-night.

Once the temps return to sub-zero, we also predict a speedy recovery.
This will be when you get to see the skills and abilities of the
Tremblant Mountain Crews jump into action.

Open run count down to 3 this morning and the net result is that
we have the 1 path down to the Lowell Thomas Triple Chair that we had
on Opening day.

So then, you ride up the Gondola with your "Descent" Poncho, then you
cruise over to the top of P'tit Bonheur using La Crete from the summit.
At the bottom of P'tit Bonheur, you use the run-out portion of Beauchemin,
the final 200 meters or so, as it plateau's into the Lowell Thomas Triple
Chairs base loading zone.

Thank goodness this is an excellent run all on its own. If we died and someone
told us we'd have to ski endless loops on P'tit Bonheur, we would think we were
in heaven.

P'tit Bonheur is one of the finest cruising/practice runs on the planet,
regardless of skill level.

If you're skiing or boarding Tremblant today, you can be thankful for that
because things could be worse, much worse as in closed, but very very
fortunately, we get to spring ski P'tit Bonheur all day!

That is the bonus for being born eternally optimistic.

If you're here today, make the best of it, luckily we've
got P'tit Bonheur to do it with!

.

It was a tough day at Tremblant as 60+ Kmph winds rocked the lift system
to the point that it was unsafe to operate, so despite rescheduling for a late
opening, the weather did not permit that and the day was called on account of it.

The news is not all bad though, and certainly not as bad as it could have been.
While surrounding areas got quite a bit of rain, our skiable/boardable terrain at
Tremblant, which was all summit based to begin with, seems to have come through
with far less damage than may have been expected.

This web cam Snap Shot taken this afternoon, just after 4:00 P.M. still
shows lots of Summit snow .... compare this to the images in yesterdays
conditions report and things don't seem to have diminished that much.

By 1:30, Tremblant.ca had posted the projected Snow Report for tomorrow
and we've included a copy of the printable version of that for you to take a
look at here.

Bottom line here is that we may have lost a bit, but the open
trail count for the summit zone tomorrow is the same as yesterdays,
before all this weather "Drama".

We're thinking it won't take too long to catch up.
