12/9/10 Conditions

Very High Quality Alpine Snow Surfaces.

PLEASE NOTE:
This mornings Open Trail Count shows 10, however,
several of these are marked "RACE" on the South Side list,
so those ones are typically not accessible to the public as they
are only open to participants in the 24Hour Children's Charity
Fundraiser. They are specifically prepared for the 24 hours of
high, fast traffic, and they are set aside to maintain surface quality.

It is quite likely (subject to correction by anyone who can) that
South Side users today may only have Beauchemin to the TGV Quad.

The loss of some South Side open runs has been compensated for
by the opening of both Lowell Thomas and La Traverse on the North Side.

In addition, the North Side shows the "Progressive Opening" of Upper
Beauchemin, which means that it will probably be opened at some point
during the day when the Ski Patrol determines the right time to do so.

This gives todays Tremblant visitor quite a bit of excellent North Side
terrain, so with the High Quality of the surfaces, the Skiing and Boarding
should be very, very good.

Todays weather is forecasted to include some sunny breaks, more as
the day goes on, but it's a bit cool at -15C. The winds are light to moderate
at around 10KM from the North-West, coming across the Mountain
from the Nansen sector. It may be gusty at the summit, so at these temps
you will want to make sure that you are well bundled up, but once you are
below the summit, it should be easy to handle. If the sun comes out, that
will be a bonus.

Today's copy of the Official Trail and Grooming status report is
included below in the first "reply". Please scroll down to see that
and any other info we may post here today.

Important Notice to All Potential Tremblant
Mountain Users For the up-coming Week.

(This Notice is a carry-over from yesterday's Apres Ski Report
and is subject to revised Weather and Mountain Data at any time.)

These notes are primarily for Skiers/Boarders planning to
visit Tremblant this weekend and may be concerned about
how many runs they will have with the big Charity event going on.
We'll look at the days following too...

Clues to the near future development of Tremblant's
expanding open terrain.

The Official http://www.tremblant.ca Snow Report holds the
most likely answers to what new Trails are going to be
opened next.

The best indicator of "What's Next" is the "Snowmaking" column
located on the far right hand side of the document.
So what do we see there right now?

Firstly, there are all the South Side runs that are required to facilitate
the running of the 24Hour Children's Charity Fundraiser. For the
purposes of this article, we're going to leave those aside, because as
the regular ski/board Mountain users, we're not in the Charity event
and what we're interested in, particularly for this upcoming weekend is,
what can we use while the event is on.

SOUTH SIDE:

On the South Side, we've got snowmaking on Charron[daytime],
Desserres, Haut(Upper)[nighttime] and Desserres Bas(Lower)[daytime],
plus McCulloch[night] and Tashereau[day].
The square brackets indicate time of day for snowmaking operations.

We would speculate that the South Side group of runs listed may be opened to offer a
parallel track to the 24Hour course. At this late stage, so close to the big event, we think
it's somewhat dependent on how much more natural snow received, plus, "How things go"
for the rest of the 24 Hour set-up as to whether-or-not we get these runs for the weekend.
It's worth a shot. If it's NOT possible for this weekend, then no problem, these runs all need
to be filled in for the Christmas Holiday period, so no efforts are wasted.

NORTH SIDE:

On the North Side, we've got snowmaking on Duncan, Bas(lower)[day],
Rope Tow[day], Rigodon[day] Beauchemin Haut(upper) and Bas(lower)[day], Gagnon[daytime] as well as Expo Haut(upper)[day] and
Expo Bas(lower)[night].

If it's possible to have "Top to Bottom" on the North Side runs, they can take a lot of the
regular Mountain User traffic that will be displaced on the weekend by the Charity event.
That would definitely be a big help for everybody because it just takes a huge amount
of stress off the South Side Lift system which is going to have a full "Charity" load to
begin with.

The key to making the whole North Side "Top to Bottom" thing work, besides Beauchemin
Bas (lower), is Gagnon. This is the run that will allow the Expo High Speed Detachable
Quad Chair to function as a connection from the base to the summit, via the Lowell Thomas
triple, on the North Side.

An added bonus for Skiers/Boarders is whatever Mountain crews can get open besides lower
Beauchemin, like Expo itself. Hard to say on that one, but wow, it would be fantastic if
that were possible!

Add up all the possible snow accumulations and it comes to...
65 centimeters! That's equal to 25.59 inches! ...or, over 2 feet!

Potential Wow, WoW WOW week
coming up at Tremblant!

"Weather Forecasting is an Art as much as a Science"
We said this in the past...

Unfortunately, the weather network has revised its long term
precipitation forecasts in the last 12 hours to a lower possible
number of only 32 Cm, or a little over 1 foot of new snow...

Damn, we hate that when that happens!

The possibility exists that they could even now be wrong, either way.

So here's what they're showing right now @ 10:30 a.m. 12.9.10

We'll take whatever fresh snow Mother Nature sends us
in any event. The skiing and boarding will be very, very good,
no matter what, so we'll seeya on the slopes!

Don't forget...
