71(*) Open Trails on 2 open sides of Tremblant.
Soleil and Edge are off-line today.
No matter what the weather, you still get this
at Tremblant today...
Let's Talk About The Weather!!!
What is the actual temperature this morning?
-36C ...
-30C ... Take your pick based on the following sources...
-33C ...

Optional Source No.1...
The Weather Network on line -----------------------------------------------------
Optional Source No. 2...

Thermometer says:
-33C
-----------------------------------------------------
Any way you take it, it's really nippy out there!
Frostbite Warning!
No, Zero, Nadda, None What-So-Ever, Exposed Skin Today!
Part of the weather challenge today is going to be the wind.
The forecasted North West wind is at 15 kmph which is moderate,
however, at these very cold temps, even a tiny bit of wind will
strip heat away quicker than you can say "Jack Frost".
Even if there was no wind at all, you still run the risk of "Wind Chill"
damage....
10 points if you know why...
"Ground Speed" ... a term pilot's use to define the speed at which
they travel over a specified distance.
For us, it simply means how fast you are going down the Mountain
and/or how fast the chair lift is taking you up the Mountain, so even if
there is no wind at all, moving through the air at any speed is equivalent
to wind effects.
It is absolutely critical that you pay attention to every single overlapping
seal around wrists, waist, neck, helmet edge and any other place you can
think of. Heat loss will occur very rapidly and regardless of the accurate temp
right now, anywhere close to -30C could freeze the tip of your nose and give
you frostbite in seconds when descending down a run at 20 Kmph.
Getting back to the forecast...
If you look at the first 2 options above you can see that there is a
completely different idea about wind speed and direction. The actual
Weather Network daily forecast is calling for a 5 Kmph South wind
compared to Tremblant.ca calling for North-West at 15 Kmph.
In this case we think Tremblant.ca is closer to the actual, but time will tell.
We will attempt to provide proof of wind direction here shortly.
As usual, when it comes to talking about the Weather, there are
frequently different forecasting opinions. Either way today, it's
still going to be cold....
-----------------------------------------------------
"Proof of Wind"... as per above...
Here's a prime example of the difference between forecasting
and reality.
We were wrong on the wind forecast, and so was everyone else,
at least up to the following time-stamped pic.
Weather Network said: South @ 5 Km
Tremblant.ca said: North-West @ 15 Km
We thought Tremblant.ca would be closer...
Actual, at Summit Point of Proof.
North-East @ 5 Km
Here's the proof: we took about 20 screenshots over 15 minutes to verify
and the flag/"wind indicator" remained constant.
This could change at any time.

Is there any Weather "Good News"???
You bet... Take a look at this...
Of particular importance to Tremblant Trip Planners.... It's Going To Be Winter For A While....
but at least warmer than it is right now....
and Snow in the forecast too!
Moving On To Skiing, Boarding...
Surface conditions are excellent.
Cold enhances surface conditions, sort of a silver lining, if you
are a "Glasss Half Full" person.
There will be great conditions for all skill levels within the open
terrain and the carving should be a blast if you can cope with
the weather.
