2/16/11 Conditions

95(*) Open Trails on the beautifully prepared
4 sides of Tremblant.

Excellent Skiing and Boarding today for all rated skill levels as the
Mountain Crews have now had 2 days to refine the groomed slopes,
so they will be in very fine shape. The ungroomed expert terrain will
continue to be challenging due to almost 60 CM of snow in a week, so
if you're headed for those runs, be prepared for a great workout while
using your best "Expert" technique.

Last Day Sale on WINTER !?!?!

If you can make it out today.... go, because...

This extended episode of Winter is going
to be interrupted by a day or two of Spring!

We've had approximately 46 days in a row
of straight, sub-zero stable winter temps without a single
thaw event. Thank You Mother Nature!

This great run of winter is probably going to have a little thermal "burp"
starting tomorrow afternoon. A South-Westerly flow of warm air is forecast
to travel from the U.S. up through the East Coast bringing with it some
yucky rain. How much will we get is entirely speculation right now.

We would like to point out that the weather forecast models have changed to
show both more and less than they do right now, twice in the last 48 hours.
The point there is that in a best case scenario it may only last about 26 hours
and that our summit will not go above freezing. The indicated high for the
forecast is between +2 and +4C at base level. The usual spread between Base
and Summit temps at Tremblant is about 4 degrees C, so we're right on the
borderline of potentially having the Summit stay below zero C.

Another variable is the call for "Mixed" precipitation, meaning there could
be snow mixed in, or again in the case of our summit being at an elevation
645 meters or 2116 feet above the base level and it's typical 4 or so degrees
Celsius colder temp, maybe, just maybe, it might even surprise us with all
snow up there and/or on the North.

It won't change the fact that there will be great skiing and boarding,
after today, but they'll be different in all likelihood.

Recent Review...

Sunday was a day that will live in memory as a unique and
rare blizzard day, made all the more special by the fact that it
was the second one in a week after Feb 8th.

A Run on Marie-Claude Asselin found barely tracked, beautiful
powder snow.

Sundays Blizzard was accompanied by vigorous, gusty winds.
Snow that had accumulated in the Summit Trees shown here
was literally blown off of the branches at this point, but was
re-deposited just below the summit as the shelter off the peak
was enough to allow it to fall and to build up at quite a rate.

Less than 200 vert. feet below the picture above, we find where
some of the snow that was in the summit trees has gone. There
are places right adjacent to the tree lines where the drifting is in
excess of 18 to 20 inches.

O.K., so it's not great photography, but most real Skiers
and Boarders don't carry around Pro Camera Gear either,
so great or not, it is real and still quite effective in displaying
the essence of the moment.

Of course, the Mountain Crews have been working full time
at grooming all this wonderful snow into the beautiful base
we have today.

It really has been quite a sweet winter so far!
