Spring for a day!

There are always 2 sides to the coin, so let's be positive
with a "Heads Up" look at this very brief Spring preview
that Mother Nature is giving us today.

Firstly, reality check. It is what it is. 1 day of potentially warm,
rainy conditions. (The Weather Network is calling for a return to
sub-zero temps and Snowfall by 7:00 P.M. tonight.)
As any experienced Skier or Boarder knows, that's not a bad thing
if you are properly prepared with appropriate gear like a good Descente
Poncho.

If it rains...

This is what you need to stay dry. This is one of the best Spring Ski
items you will ever own and it makes a day like today fun and enjoyable.
Period.

For just over $100.00 bucks, this is one of the smartest things
you can have for "Spring" and you can get one of these in the
Resort Village Shops.

Fantastic Spring Ski Conditions(**) on 72(*) Open Trails.
Give or take 1 or 2, there are 53 Progressives listed.
Please Note:
The "Progressive" list could literally change by the minute.

That's quite a few "Progressive" or gradual trail
openings to be sure, but those are necessary at this
time in order to preserve and protect surface quality.
This is part of a longer term strategy for Mountain Crews to
keep as much of the base intact as possible together with
the Ski Patrol who actually certify the safety of each and every
open run.

Nothing we can do other than be patient as they sort out what
needs to be done, except of course, enjoy a day of early spring
Skiing and Boarding.

(**)"Fantastic" Spring Conditions?

Yup, Oui, For Sure... Why?

First of all tempurature. At a high of +7C, that's spring like
to say the least.

Secondly, wall to wall coverage of what is open. What that means
in practical terms is very few hazards that normally occur with
the real spring that comes in late March, early April when the base has
been reduced by thaw. There is virtually none of that today.

Thirdly, it might not rain all that much and there is even a possibility
that the sun could come out!

Compared To Last Year:

On closing day last season, Aprill 11th, 2010, we had 244 CM of
total seasonal snowfall and last year was a great season even
though it was a lower than average snowfall.

Today, our total snowfall is at 274 CM, so as of right this second,
we are 30 CM ahead of last years total, and winter ain't over yet!

Just 2 reminders of 5 days ago...
and why the base has a good reserve to work with.

The 2 samples above are why the Base is so good and why a day like today
can easily be taken in stride in the big picture.

The best way to cope with todays conditions is to have a Descente
Poncho and your skis or board waxed or coated with the appropriate
"Warm" wax which is formulated to repel water and break the suction
that slows you down with wet surfaces.

Then, go out and enjoy the day anyway!

Remember, the weather is forecasted to return to sub-zero temps
and snowfall by 7:00 P.M. tonight, so this should be very brief.

"Winter" Scheduled to come back on-line at around 7:00P.M.
this eve. so when you look at the Forecasted temps for tomorrow
below, you can see why good, sharp edges are going to be a critical
element in your enjoyment. After a high of +8C today, tomorrows
well below freezing is going to make conditions very "firm"!

Mountain Crews may be working all night to keep any icing to
the possible minimum, but it will take a couple of days to
achieve a full recovery.

Of course, the additional snow shown in the forecast will be a huge
help, but precisely how much we get is going to be a factor in the
quickness of the recovery.

Long term weather models look to be stable winter temps for the next
2 weeks, so we're hoping for a speedy and durable recovery as we cruise
through the second half of February.

Hang in there gang, we've got lots more winter left to go!

Remember, we've got an excellent base and all the -30C weather we've
had in the past has put the frost well into the Mountain, so we have the
promise of great conditions for quite a while, even as things warm up
on average.

It it's been a while since your last Tremblant visit, make your plans to
get back soon, the fresh air and exercise is good for your health
and the good times and spectacular views are good for your spirit!

We're looking forward to more scenes like these!

A peak at the all new Algonquin, also on Versant Soleil.
Hopefully we'll recover enough to see this fine new run
back open, but no matter what, lots of sunny days like this
one, are on tap for the future as we work our way towards
spring.
