3/8/11 Conditions

Post by T360 »

Apres Midnight, Apres Ski...

If that was not the best day of the season, it was most certainly
tied for best day of the season in our opinion.

What was once bumpy, is now flat.

These next three days may well be the sweetest days of the season.

Pure Winter...

Excellent, Fabulous, Superb, Wonderful,
etc., etc., ...on and on and on.[/b]

If it was possible for you to magically transport yourself to Tremblant,
now would be a good time.

Yes, of course the Tremblant signature scenery is spectacular
looking either South or North...

...however, the scenery, as magnificent as it is, is icing on the cake,
so to speak, because the real story lies herein....

We got a lotta' New, Fresh Snow!

This picture is why we have the currently exceptional conditions at Tremblant.

We love doing these "Proof of Snow" pic's because they effectively illustrate
the nature of the way the snow lies trail-side.

No, you are not going to find snow this deep on the trails, but this specific
picture was taken yesterday afternoon, not 6 meters from the side of
P'tit Bonheur, just below the first turn, so it is extremely relevant to the
quality of the immaculately groomed surface that is right beside it.

This picture also speaks huge volumes about what we call the
"Blowing and Drifting" factor that occurs every time that snow falls
at Tremblant with any wind at all. While some people are fixated with the
statistical accuracy of the meteorologically measured snow, we're
ultimately far more interested in the way Mother Nature put it on the ground
with her infinitely unique tools of variable winds and temperatures in combination
with the contours of the Mountain that result in the sometimes massive
amounts of locally drifted snow like we see above.

Without this picture above...
you could not have this picture below...

Todays weather starts out at -18C and under a nice winter sun
will rise to around -6C with a light to moderate west wind.
Another easy, pleasant winter day.

The Skiing and Boarding within all Skill Level Rated terrain will
be remarkably fine. The edge set properties on the groomed
surfaces is at the very highest levels of grip.

Here is an illustration of that:

The ski poles are shown beside the tracks for dimensional reference.
If you've got fresh sharp edges and short radius slalom skis, you can lay down
some tight tracks at Tremblant now.

One interesting aspect of the above pic. is that it was taken at 4:45 P.M.
yesterday at "Last Run" off of Flying Mile, and as you can see, there's still
untracked corduroy on Nansen.

As a mater of fact, there was untracked corduroy in places all over the Mountain.

Here's a shot of the Edge at the end of the day. Untracked corduroy here too.

Worth repeating...

If it was possible for you to magically transport yourself to Tremblant,
now would be a good time.

If you live regionally...

Take the day off...
Play Hooky...
GoTo Tremblant if you can.

Re: 3/8/11 Conditions

Best Day of the Season?

We think so. The main reason is the combination of conditions
and light.

Todays Apres Ski from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M at La Forge
centered around conditions first of all. In that area, there
was another strong "Best Day Of Season" candidate from
Mid-February, but the HUGE difference is the extended daylight
hours that we have now.

The longer daylight makes an immense difference to the
use of the terrain at any point from about 2:30, right
through to "Last Run" now as opposed to Mid-Feb, when the sunset
occurred so much earlier, and the sun was also so much lower in the sky.

The low flat light of an early and quick setting sun, makes negotiating
terrain quite difficult when surface irregularities are encountered in early
to Mid-February, but coming into the second week of March, things are
quite different. Now you can clearly see surface detail to a fine degree,
so all manner of control and breaking can be just that much better
for everyone when there is abundant light right up to, and past 4:45 P.M.

Combine this great naturally longer daylight, with the very finest pure
winter conditions and you've got our candidate for "best day of the season",
at least so far...
